Just checked the listing. With 4:41 left on the auction, the high bid is $25,500. Looks like it won't even hit MSRP, I hope the seller doesn't take a bath on this one.

I quick Autotrader search shows a couple used '23 Limited's going for around $35K~$37K. Unless there is a huge wave of late auction action, this one won't even hit those prices.

I can't help but wonder if something like a BRZ is a little too mainstream for the people who actually buy vehicles off of Bring-a-Trailer (not those of us to read it for entertainment). I noticed one commenter stated they didn't even know the car was being made!

Ya'll have never really followed a BaT auction and it shows. There is always last minute bidding.

It might go over MSRP because "MSRP + delivery fee + dealer fee + state new car tax" is never straight MSRP.

Some states it's advantageous to buy used or private party tax wise, and can save $1.5-3k in this case, so to a savvy buyer, buying a "used" private party new car for slightly over MSRP can be a win, that is if the seller is willing to lose money on it.

Though with the BaT 5% buyer fee, it'd have to sell right at MSRP or slightly less to be more advantageous than buying new.

That is NOT true. It is a myth. They can sell for whatever they want as long as it is advertised at the price being asked.
Been down this road a dozen times yet people believe what they want to.

I think Canadians are confused by the law where it states that it is illegal to add fees to an advertised price. But you can advertise whatever you want. So maybe that's why people think mark-ups aren't allowed.

Most of BAT auction action happens at the very end.

EXACTLY!
The big problem is they see the manufacture's commercials that say "MSRP is $XXXXX" and think that is a fixed price. The manufacturers are not covered by the All In pricing laws so they can say whatever they want. The Dealerships (they are NOT owned or run by the manufacturer) are required to advertise the whole cost. If they want to sell with a $5,000 market adjustment fee they have to make that very clear in all advertising.
So as you stated it is illegal for them to say a price in any form of advertising just to get you through the door and THEN tell you "oh and there is an extra $XXXX amount of markup".

I should clarify: I did not post my 2022 BRZ for sale at a premium price. The high number was offered to me when I purchased my 2023.

I would totally do it again presented the same scenario.

Also, my 2023 was significantly under sticker.

I'm totally an idiot for spending a vastly disproportionate amount of my income on car things.
You knew the point I was making.

Trying to be the next Emilio?

This makes me happy.

I hope more people with the means stop overpaying for cars.

Interesting auction. As others said, on BaT the action usually happens in the last half hour. Despite the white-hot (though cooling?) market and limited availability of the new BRZ, this essentially new one fell a few thousand short of MSRP.

As @gav_abr said, ‘didn’t hit the reserve.’ So much for the seller ‘just needing room in the garage?’ Seems to me more like a flipper didn’t get his hoped for quick profit.

Every auction the action happens in the last 5 minutes.

It doesn't matter the platform or item.

I used to have this same discussion about Scion which had the no haggle policy. They could still sell for over MSRP, but they sold for whatever the advertised price was. Not the same thing as the manufacturers listed price is the price.
