Third brake light delete and or alternative to stock?
Hey I am in need of some help. I recently did a new stereo install replacing all speakers, wiring, amps, and I added a 10 in subwoofer. I am having alot of problem with my 3rd brake light rattling. I have gotten rid of every vibration, except the dang brake light. I disassembled it and put clear silicone all internal parts, but it still rattles. I do not know what else I could do other than get rid of it or do a aftermarket setup of some sorts.
What have you guys done to rattle proof the rear deck brake light? Can I just get rid of it? Does the 3rd brake light on the bumper count legally speaking if I were to delete the stock one? Is there a viable aftermarket option that has been used? Thanks Last edited by bigdawg86; 05-01-2015 at 02:53 PM. |

And if you don't feel like doing your own fabrication, you can get a high-mount brake light for a Mustang for about $50:

There is a legit third brake light relocate kit for the FRS. Seen it advertised on the forum before. That should solve the problem

Also, did you check to see if it was the rear deck lid that was rattling? There is a TSB out about it. It use to rattle on car. |

I got a 12" red LED strip and just stuck it on the back of the headliner right at the glass line. You can't see it from inside or outside the car (except when the brakes are on).
I pulled the rear deck lid, removed the 3rd brake light and the child seat hooks, filled in the holes and covered it with some black felt.

Yep.I used the same light from CDC American Muscle.$52 and 20 minutes to instal. That felt deck liner pops right out after removing the 4 front facing pop clips. Not sure why a lot of people felt the need to remove all the side pillars.Waste of time.5 plastic rivets easily cut with my pocketknife and the factory 3rd light is out.Cut out 3 pieces of carbon fiber wrap to fill the holes.45 minutes total and done and I don't see that stupid factory 3rd light in my mirror anymore.

Just use a nice long led strip. No need to get fancy.

i'm currently running the mustang third brake light, but will be altering my CHMSL setup in the future, as i'm installing a gt-r spoiler with CHMSL, as well as louvers, which i'm modifying in some way to light up--currently brain storming ideas...

I got a 8 inch red led light bar and put it on the glass with double sided Gorilla tape near headliner. Bar is about as thick as a pencil. Cost like $12 i think. Eventually put a thin piece of plastic under it so it didnt glare into back seat.
