I spent most of the day at Tap and Bottle downtown. We had a tasting of some really good Belgian Barleywines. Then I grilled up some burgers and sausages. Enjoying a glad of Berliner Weisse and a cigar now.

So, my car will get here to hawaii on Wednesday, and I thought I'd share with you all the misery that is registering a modded car on this communist island.
Safety inspections are annual requirements (no emissions). If you modify certain parts of your car (ANY suspension mod) you require another inspection called 'reconstruction' inspection. Mostly just requires proof that your car is within factory spec. Here's the kicker, any police officer can write you a recon ticket if they believe your car requires an inspection, or if they believe you've modded something since your last recon inspection; you are then required to prove otherwise, or get another inspection. It's the ultimate 'guilty until proven innocent' scenario. Luckily, recon is a one time thing unless you further modify anything which would require a recon inspection (suspension mostly). Safety inspections are annual, not sure how much THEY cost yet, but with all the fees, you could easily double the annual registration costs of an average vehicle. Apparently Hawaii has voted away yet more of their freedoms in the name of safety. Grrr !!!

It's been years since I've looked, though I probably should, But there are some pretty amazing tracks and I could have sworn there was a way to register a dedicated "track" car / modded vehicle. It's important to be safe when changing any vehicle, but usually you get a community like this and I'm sure if I were to announce "I'm getting 255's on my stock rims!" someone would likely tell me "Hey guy, those don't safely fit... perhaps new rims or a smaller size are in order for your safety."

It's pretty shitty that you have to go through so much to own a modded car there, but keep us posted on the costs. Hopefully it's not too bad for you.

-- On a side note, and as an edit, I did get the Cross over pipe installed and the review written. [ http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66793&page=2 ] I was going to take pics of the process such, but dropped my camera. Guess it looked better on the floor? I was speaking with Jonmotoring about this product and in the future they will be including a different set of bolts (Had one snap on me during install on Thursday, had new bolts overnighted by friday morning and fixed the leak -- Didn't include it in my report because the company stood behind thier product.)

All-in-all, product gave me a deeper stock tone and feels a little smoother, but feel like I notice my torque curve more. That's likely just one of those mental things, but has me saving for a tune. The exhaust leak has me saving for a muffler delete which brings me to my next question.

Is it worth it to have a shop fabricate a berk style Dual tip Muffler delete or should I just spend the $270 to get it done? haha
