I miss my FRS.... One week without driving it. I miss her. Driving around in a Opel Corsa is fun, but turntable sucks, seat position is for grandma, mpg is amazing but hp weak and it's just not fun. Accelerator makes me achy.

I stumbled across the build blog of that car once upon a time. Have not the slightest clue where though.

It's not to my taste and the bumper isn't exactly flush with the fenders, but... dare I say it, that surprisingly doesn't look half-bad.

Well, I've bought and sold several houses over the years.

I've found my perfect "old folks" home down in Orting, WA.

Yep, an old soldiers home ....... comes with a garage for my last vehicle .......

Guess I have a new goal now, aim for that promo and save up for down payment in a couple of years.

Life, I hate you.
Yeah... whatever. Ok, so they're definitely pricey in Seattle - the real issue is that the suburbs just can't sprawl (well, South they do.) I had to go through "yeah, well, Chicago cost of living is lower than Seattle" at this year's review so I did some research. It seems it's cheaper ONLY if you count the fact that you can live in the boonies and still work in the city - the house I have in the city would cost 1/4 the price just 50 miles out with a lot 10x the size - though property taxes might be about the same! Go another 10 miles and you end up with multiple acres of land and are still able to use public transit into the city.

It's insane. It's probably a terrible idea for me to be where I am, but a certain someone really wanted to live in the city, and I needed a workshop, a garage, space for a home theater, an office, and a nice kitchen. The kitchen needs to be made nice still, but that's a $50k project that may be waiting... but we got the rest of that, and my commute is now ~ half hour (9-10 minute 3/4 mile walk to the train, 12-14 minutes to the station, and then I have to walk upstairs...) door to door.

It puts me in easy range of the restaurant scene though, and that's not cheap either! So many incredible places to eat.

Of course, I'm a good bit older than you are, and a 2 income household... plus the first house was probably about what you're considering. So, you can get there.

Keeping a budget and saving like a fiend is not a bad way to go though. I paid cash for this car, and we bought the 2nd house 4 months later. 5 years without a house payment or a car payment can be quite a bit of cash.

The American Dream ain't real, brother. Can't afford to live where you work, and if you can, you're in a shitty area with a shitty, small 1 bedroom apartment.

Though, not all hope is lost. Found a gorgeous place, on the water, 1200sqft in Georgina that was around 230k. That was on the market for less than a week.

Basically anything within an hour of the GTA is absolutely fucked. As mentioned earlier, even Guelph is insane. I can afford an older townhouse, which isn't the end of the world, but a garage is a really big want for me. Ah well, maybe I'll find a wife shortly and double that income. Though, the girl I'm seeing now is 20 and going to school, so I have 2 years to wait for her to be making any money if anything serious comes of that.
Yup. How I would love to have been able to buy a house when my parents did. I think they paid under 100k back in the 90's for a 4000sqft home. Sigh.

I couldn't even imagine trying to work and live in a place like NYC or Vancouver !

I bought my first house (brand new construction), in Silicon Valley (San Jose), California in 1966. Paid $23,000 ...... with $1.00 down (GI Bill).

My parents weren't even in Canada in 1966.

If I could get what my parents paid (167k, in a brand new subdivision) I'd be happy as a pig in shit. The house is 1800sqft, not including the basement. Completely modest, but absolutely perfect for having a family in. Primary school, grocery store and LCBO are all less than 1km away from the house. What more do you need to start a life?

Now, they're trying to convince me to buy the house from them. They're asking 580 from me. How the fuck can anyone in their mid 20's afford that? Best case, they both die at work tomorrow, I inherit the house and get a bunch of insurance money lol.
