oil filters

Anyone know anything about this filter:

p/n 90915-YZZS1 black filter Denso made in Thailand

I went to the Toyota dealer today to get a filter and asked for SU003-003311 and he came out with the above one. Said the p/n superseded, I had read on here about the black Tokyo Roki and the blue Fram but I haven't seen anything about this one. I searched here and didn't come up with anything.

IIRC most, if not all Toyota oil filters are made in Thailand. Nothing wrong with that, my Project Mu pads were made in Thailand as well.

We used to carry the SU003-00311. I never compared them side by side, but I think there was a period where the SU003-00311 filter came in the 90915-YZZS1 box. But now, it's highly unlikely you'll find the SU003 oil filter anymore.

Subaru might still have their original oil filter for the BRZ.

I got a different looking oil filter . Apparantly, there are at least 3 filters Subaru uses for our cars. The most recent one I picked up is much narrower and taller than the one's that came with our cars.

I just changed my oil and filter and replaced it with the one mentioned it the original post. I specifically went to toyota and asked for a FRS filter and that was what i was given. It's shorter and when I turned my car on after the oil change, I felt the filter and it was significantly hot to the touch. I don't know if this is normal, but then again i haven't touched my filter after circulating the oil for 3 minutes.

Yes this is normal on any car after the engine gets up to normal operating temperature. The oil inside the engine gets hot (around 190) and that oil is circulating through the filter and the body of the filter is metal so it will get as hot as the engine.

I wouldn't be surprised with Toyota going to their own filters, seeing how confusing the multitude of Subaru filters have been, and given that FR-S models run TGMO as opposed to BRZ models getting Idemitsu oil.

The dealer I bought my car from carries the blue ones that are used for most of the other models, manufactured by Honeywell, I asked for the black the first time I went to get filters and they said the black filter was just the break in filter... Then I asked a different guy and he said it was superseded by the blue ones, which I didn't really believe either.

I go to a dealer now that's a little further but keeps the black 130 Tokyo Roki filters, or Toyota P/N SU003-00311 filters. The last time I went to that dealer which was only a week ago, they said Subaru superseded it with some other filter, then went back to the Tokyo Roki. I'm sure many parts guys don't really know about all these filters and just give you whatever they find first since all of the other Subaru models probably use the same filter.

According to the parts lookup, as of yesterday, Toyota has now stopped carrying the the SU003-00311 filter and replaced it with the 90915-YZZS1 with no stock showing on the Toyo Roki one in North America through Toyota. On the other side of that coin, the YZZ series Thai filters are of a good quality.

I just got the SU003-00311 at my local dealer today, installed this afternoon. I didn't think to ask how many they had.

That's like us, we have about 10 still on the shelf and haven't ordered the 90915-YZZS1 as of yet.

so I bought 5 filters bulk from Amazon for $36... didn't pay attention to the part number, but realized these are the 90915-YZZ51, and not the 15208AA130. I'm installing this on my BRZ, not FRS... I'm assuming this is ok. I'll be switching to Royal Purple 0w20. Apologize if this is stupid question... Just wanted to ask since this is my 1st oil change on this car. If not, I got 5 oil filters for sale

Sorry you have a BRS or FRZ. It's the same car with the same engine.
