See that is why mileage can sometimes be a poor indication of wear. For the first three years I owned it I drove for a total of 5 hours a trip to two of my plants twice a week and a total of 1.5 hours to the other two the rest of the week. Since I live 2 minutes from the highway and all the plants were about the same distance from it with only one or two lights in between all those miles were spent on cruise at about 75MPH. Although the front of my car looks like it took a shotgun blast and the driver seat is so worn it appears to have come out of an old bus the mechanicals and items that wear through frequent acceleration or braking are still like new. Knowing the history if I had to chose between my highway driven car at 120,000 miles or a city driven and tracked car with 30,000 miles I would take mine any day as far as the mechanicals and wear items go.

That is absolutely amazing.

I noticed something similar as a technician at Toyota when I was younger (18-21). There were work trunks that were 4-5 years old with 250k miles on them; the company maintained them well and they were rock solid. We then had some cars come in that were 6-10 years old with 15k miles (typically owned by grandparents or elderly people), those cars were generally seeping from the engine, fluids looked disgusting, hoses/belts needed to be replaced, etc. I would have taken the truck with 1/4 million miles over the low mileage cars.

My 3000 mile review on owning a Lotus Exige:

Most fun car I have ever owned. It is like a go cart. It is very rough, VERY loud, but I like those things.

Cons:
loud. everything rattles
very rough ride
very difficult to get out of
attracts too much attention, lots of people want to talk to you
major exhaust drone at freeway speeds (earplugs are a must)
not even enough cargo space for a picnic lunch
anything you put in the trunk will bake since the exhaust is right there
shifter is not the best, but fine for street use - aftermarket shifter would be a good investment for competition
awful (no) rear visibility
everyone in a complete POS car will want to race, or do extremely stupid shit around you

Pros:
When you are in it you are in a cockpit. very comfortable driving position. You are one with the machine.
The throttle response of the NA engine is fantastic.
steering is fantastic
the sound when you are getting on the throttle is orgasmic (no need for the radio)
the Toyota drive train seems very strong and reliable (cross my fingers)
very easy and inexpensive routine maintenance (Toyota parts)
probably one of the easiest MT cars to drive of all I have ever driven
awesome clutch

I'm sure I will think of more pros and cons. Overall, if you want one of these cars, my advise is do it as young as you can. My knees and back get any worse and that will be it for the Lotus. I have had days where I just cant drive it with my arthritis and knee problems.

You could not date in an Exige, unless she only wears jeans and sneakers. There is no way a lady could get in and out in a dress and heals (without exposure or worse). It has to be just a toy.

This car may get me back to the track again, or at least some auto-x.

I'll take proper maintenance over mileage any day.

San Jose man "trapped" in a Lotus.

Jaws of life were brought in to free him.

Driver was hoisted out with a crane.

Man survived.

Lotus is being parted out.
