Don't think this is with tune too... so you can likely get more with a tune.
Most likely without the tune. The tune would get you more gains low end.

Yeah i agree, I would love to buy there front pipe separately.
I keep debating what I want to do because I want to avoid exhaust fumes. I am considering the Fujitsubo catless fp, but I would love to get the apexi just cause it's catted.

One more question regarding this setup. Did the cabin noise level change in any of the setups? Preferably the VS/VSR since it's in the same realm as the Authorize R.

Can't believe a 421 header is quieter then stock.

I wish they packaged it with a quality UEL header / OP.

Do you think the FP would even fit with a different manifold? Looks like they bolt up about the same location.

Yeah, that's the misconception I was trying to tell people since day one.

You can mix/match setups all day, but a combination of resonator size and placement is what ultimately dictates sound, not "stock front pipe is quieter than aftermarket because it's stock"

Here's what the dyno looks like:

  • Solid line is Apex'i header/overpipe/front pipe w/ cat, plus Blitz Nur-Spec F-Ti exhaust. 91 octane w/ tune.
  • Dotted line is a premium 4-2-1 catless header/overpipe/Berk catted front pipe, plus Blitz Nur-Spec F-Ti exhaust. 100 octane w/ tune.

The only difference between these two are 1) 100 octane, and 2) the Apex'i/Blitz setup is about 6db quieter. You can decide if it's quality or not.

As for fitment, the front pipe itself is interchangeable w/ stock. I tested this out already in an earlier post: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...00&postcount=7

If I were to throw out an estimation, I'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of Fujitsubo ($500 MSRP) or higher.

At that price point, no one would buy it and just point to others. Then you get the same argument over and over again....

Review Soon || Apex'i exhaust manifold + overpipe + Super Catalyzer for FRS/BRZ

Thank you Alex for the detail review.

It really intrigues me on how quiet the system is, so I went back to Apexi site to see more spec on the header & I found out on their official site product list actually listed everything down to sizing & decibel the system is making with N1X cat back or without(stock). *Also has data on their RS Evo (Axle back) as well.

http://www.apexi.co.jp/pdf/products/exhaust.pdf

RS Evo : 93 db
Header & Super catalyzer : 85 db
N1 Evo : Left 94 db ,Right 95 db
Full system
Header & Super Catalyzer + N1 Evo : Left 93 db, Right 93 db.

That super Catalyzer must be magical...

I guess I really want the system but @ 2200 it's really a steep hill.

Yeah it's an amazing system and I would buy it...but priority's change in life and I plan to start a family in 1-2 years and don't want to spend $3,000CDN on this. Also the possibility of a gas smell is an issue i rather not face. ...will just be ordering the Fujitsubo Catless Dual Resonated Front Pipe in the winter to match with my Fujitsubo Authorize R catback.

In my honest opinion, if someone wanted the power and performance of a catless header, and don't want to pay for a sound/smell penalty, this (and the HKS version) is pretty much the way to go.

$2200 is MSRP, actual sell price will be below $2000. I guess if you look at it from a different angle, do you want to deal with noise and drone?

I ran this setup w/ the Blitz VSR exhaust and it was so quiet it was annoying. Annoying because if I spent that much money on a setup, I'd want it to sound ricey.

I think with only one cat you'll still have some smell. Maybe nothing annoying but you'll still smell something.

FWIW I can easily smell gas with a stock setup in my garage on cold startup.

Oh yes I agree. The car always smells a little on cold starts in the garage. However, I've had a buddy with a catless front pipe and never noticed the smell outside or inside the car when outdoors. So it seems like it would be pretty much the same as stock past the cold start.

Plus, from what i researched,

Catless front pipe + Stock header would smell less than;
Catless header with a Stock front pipe and smell even more less than;
Catless header with Catted aftermarket front pipe.

Sound clips:

Apex'i setup as-is
Apex'i front pipe only
Apex'i setup w/ Blitz VS/VSR exhaust (quiet, OE-type baffle exhaust)
Apex'i setup w/ Blitz F-Ti exhaust (straight-thru muffler design)

A sidenote: the entire header/OP/FP setup is basically like stock in terms of sound suppression. I know there's other headers on the market that make more power, but this setup will probably be the most streetable without sacrificing any noise or smell.

Special thanks to @FRSport.com and @info@BlitzNA.com for helping with testing and parts.
