Might as well use mittens.

When you hear grinding you know it's time to replace.

Um, maybe I'm old school but is the sole purpose of wearing gloves is to not get your hands dirty or am I missing something? I don't mean anything negative by that. It may be a stupid question but I'm genuinely curious. I can't feel anything with gloves on.

Eh, those gloves are handy while doing suspension work and the like. You don't need a fine touch when you're just yanking stuff apart. I wear a pair of nitrile gloves for the grease/oil with a pair of those "mechanics" gloves over top for grip (and to keep from tearing the thin gloves).

Or did I miss the "Real men don't wear gloves" memo?

I've got a few sets of Mechanix gloves, they've got their uses, doing rough work that isn't greasy/oily that would rip nitrile gloves every 3 minutes, I've got 0.3mm high dex ones I use for car interior shit, impact ones with D3O in the palms for when I have to REALLY beat on something (yes it really works). General use ones I used in the summer when nitrile gloves get too sweaty. If they get too dirty, just spray them with all purpose cleaner and wring them out under running water and they're good as new.

Heck, I've got some soft palm ones I use for driving because my sandpaper hands would ruin the steering wheel.

But yes 90% of the time it's nitrile, though with that said, the gloves aren't his problem.

No, that's not what I meant at all. I was thinking maybe chemical exposure, grip, GF hates it, don't want grease under your nails if you have a white collar job, etc.

I just see people using them for everything and I can't help buy wonder why.

If I ripping an exhaust apart I glove up for sure, but a 10mm bolt in a car interior? Maybe I've been watching too many DIY you tube videos lol

Cheers, I think the brake pad thing is over or at least should be.

Suspension, abrasives, etc.

Also good for moderately hot work. And for hooking up trailers when you don't want to waste a set of nitrile gloves for a few minutes of work.

Usually have nitrile, "mechanix" style gloves and welding gloves nearby for various car work. Welding gloves are ideal for a brake job mid endurance race for example
