Can someone do a chop with the hood 5cm higher as described in the Autocar interview?

Jaromir Cech says the hoodline will have to be raised about 5cm to meet pedestrian safety regulations. Anyone care to give us your impression of how this might look?

I think it'll be next to impossible to know how that'll really look. It's not a huge change or anything, but they're certainly going to have to alter a few other body components up front to really get it to work.

I'd kind of like to see one with a higher hood just as a rough idea...

From the Autocar website:

Quote:
Senior Toyota designer Cech estimates than the bonnet is around 100mm lower than it would be with a conventional four-cylinder engine in place, but cautions: "It won't be quite as low for the production car. Unfortunately, we have to raise it maybe 50mm to meet pedestrian crash protection legislation."
Obviously we won't know exactly how it'll look, but that's the point of this thread: give us your interpretation, have fun with it, let's get a rough idea of what it could look like!

50mm=5cm=2inches,

which is about the size of my thumb, and I'm about 5"10.

its not a BIG difference, approx height difference is about the height of a standard id card.

thanks for that info. I hadn't gotten around to checking out how much that meant either. I can live with a two inches higher hood. Obviously looks better the way it is...

I don't quite understand how a higher hood is safer for pedestrians? Does that mean a cab-over semi would be great to hit a pedestrian?

Maybe if you hit the pedestrian, they might roll over the hood easier w 50mm higher.

I think its for more space between anything that could possibly break through the body work and injure the pedestian the so nicely ran into you. like a crumple zone of sorts. then again if your going at say highway speeds i font think there is enough room between your hood and anything under it to save that dumbass pedestrian
