10k miles between oil change

In the US, my manual says to change oil every 7500 miles so that's why I was proving the point that we can go well beyond that figure. But don't get me wrong, I will continue to change it every 6-7k miles anyway but I won't be too worried if it goes beyond that.

Exactly, I just thought I'd chip in to put those minds at ease that if an owner goes above the interval its unlikely to be detrimental.

I usually change the oil every 5k. I'm paranoid after changing the oil in my old 3000gt VR4 came out as water within 2k running royal purple. Not that this car would be shearing oil at all like that thing... On the plus side, even if I didn't change the oil all winter, it's only getting thinner and not losing any!!

I don't trust anyone or anything aside my own gut to tell me when to change the oil. 5k miles is long if you're putting heavy heat cycles on the oil, especially if you're not leaking/adding.. 50 bucks every 5k or less really isn't much of an investment to know you're OK. My wife's car on the other hand frequently sees the 10k oil changes and keeps trucking. I change it late (still synthetic) hoping it'll blow up. It's an 09 Nissan sentra and takes more abuse than I've ever witnessed. Cold start, negative 15 degrees f; she has the gas pedal almost to the floor leaving the driveway before the radio has booted.

Oil tech and engine tech has come a long way, I think as long as you're doing what the manual says, you're A OK. I never would have believed it if her car wasn't surviving this many years... Man I hate that car :/
