There are plenty of better track cars than the GT86/FRS/BRZ. I believe the new Civic SI has a better suspension setup and handles better around the track than the twins. It also has a lot more available torque. And it's $3k cheaper.

When these cars first came out, they were thought of as track monsters, but they are pretty average.

^ I hope people who can do actually something read these kinds of posts and realize it's time to bump the power and quiet the masses. When a front wheel drive Civic is faster and cheaper then it's time to change it up.

For people who don’t want to google. The car you are referencing ran an 8:20. Wouldn’t consider that slow at all.

Screw that, I'll take a RWD car with a 9 min ring time over a FWD one that does it in 8 minutes

Who cares about "ring" times, I don't, it's lots of stroking and circle jerks IMO.

I like a little RWD manual platform than can be trown around town.

And its cheap, and reliable, and some suspension and tyres makes it a super fun little beastie.

Fast is not a word I would ever use to describe a 86.

Fun cheap little car, yes.

I sold my modified 2015 STI for one, no regrets at all, I find it much more fun and engaging than the STI, even though it has half the power of the STI.

It is twice the fun of the STI though.

Opinions may vary.

Same boat here, from Impreza GT MY00 > STI MY04 > EVO 9 > MY18 BRZ that is by far the most rewarding car of the above, who cares if it hasn't 300ps if you interested for high power plenty of them out there, but how many "driver's" cars like the BRZ/GT86 out there in this price tag?

I gladly gave up some power and a quicker lap time to have a good looking car.

The little 2 door looks the goods, I could never own a civic or a golf, to me their looks are uninspiring.

I love walking up to my 86, it just looks right IMO.

As for more power, how much more are you willing to pay above the current RRP for this added power, $5k, $10k, $20k

That would put it in, or close to WRX and STI money, Subaru ain't going to do that.

That leaves Toyota, want more power you say, Toyota says "here's the new Supra, what color sir".

The 86 is priced right for the kids, and people like myself, old farts who like sporty little cars, but have to compromise due to family commitments, hell, I wish I could afford a Porka GT3 RS, but I cannot, so I compromise.

Me, if I require more power, there are tons of aftermarket options, which I guarantee will give better results than anything OEM could do for the money.

Hell, how much more do they charge for limited/special/TS editions, that give no real power advantages and compromised suspension upgrades.

In saying that I grabbed a 2017 limited (Solar Orange), it cost $4k more than the normal GTS, I was happy to pay more for the color (I've never seen another one on the street) and the little Brembo's, but, the PP rims were swapped out for RPF-1, the tyres were swapped for RS4's and the Sachs suspension was swapped out for MCA gear.

These simple mods have greatly improved performance, and I mean night and day improvement.

Everything but the paint could have been done to a regular GT/GTS, and it would have cost me less, well maybe not adding in the Brembo's, but now the car is suited to my driving requirements, not the requirements of the Toyota/Subaru engineers who design a "one size fits all" car.

If I want more power, I've been quoted $12k drive in drive out for a "quality" 300hp turbo upgrade, add another $6-8k for built bottom end and supporting mods for more power.

So, in closing this epic rant, you could have built a new GTS with a reliable 300hp atw and a hand picked handling package for less than $16k above sticker, how much more would a similar package cost from Toyota or Subaru, how much more power would you be happy with, and would it even be 300hp and tailored to your requirements?

You could even do it well cheaper than $16k if you have the time and inclination to do alot of the work yourself.

T;DR, install good suspension, tyres, exhaust and tune for a easy and cheap bump in handling and HP, or buy a Porka

All the prices are in AU, we have a special "because Austraia tax" which makes everything IRT car parts cost more.

I'm going back to working out if getting a header, and which design, is a viable and good bang for buck option before getting my ECUTEK tune, at this stage, from looking at it over the last few months, it isn't looking that good dollar to gain wise.

But the death was too slow, it should have been oil and gas by now.

And Fulvio still has room for improvement. I get similar laptimes and I think the car could go close to 8:00 with stock engine/drivetrain. Not bad for a "slow" car.

Horst Von Saurma did an 8:44 with RE050A tires(everything else stock). Full lap. That would be around 8:1X BTG.

Definitely not bad at all... I think it's the stability and handling of the car that allows it to keep it's momentum.

On the other hand... I think the best bang for bucks goes to the Civic Type R.
That is a beast of a car and it's not even that expensive...
Time was like.. 7:45 for MSRP $43k CAN brand new.
