Have you considered getting a reduction gear assembly made? The kind of thing where the crankshaft turns a large pulley, but not absurdly large, and welded/bolted to that pulley is a smaller pulley that drives the blower? That way the blower gets a normal sized pulley mounted on it and you eliminate the whole clearance issue. Manipulating the ratio on the reduction pulleys tweaks the final ratio.

We have 85mm pulleys coming our way and those will retail for about 100 bucks. So that should bring it down to about 16-17 psi, which should be just fine for those running the 335. If people want to run closer to 12 psi, the 210 is more appropriate. If we get more takers we will import the 90/95 pulleys, but so far I haven't seen the line forming at the door yet

A little update. I'll start with this datalog snippet:

This is a typical drive on pump gas, you can see the CPS voltage is .68 or about 12% e content (pump is 8-12 percent here). Difference from the last datalog is that we pushed the cruise and low load ignition timing higher to get better economy. So far so good. Some context:

"Knock Retard" is not a terribly useful parameter, but "Ign. Correction Fine" is more indicative of knock events. Under load, there are NONE which is awesome. Under part throttle low load you see just a bit. The significant thing here is that this pattern is no different than any other FI kit that retains good drivability. So 8 psi or 19 psi it will look the same. Most importantly the IAM is staying at 1. This is awesome. I'm sure in the warmer weather it will move a bit, but even still there is no appreciable knock. You can see the learned correction is not dropping, and there are no negative regions. Understand that this car has an extremely sensitive knock sensor, and the only way it is close to 0 is if the car is totally stock, or if it was turned down or disabled. We have it fully compensating on this tune and throughout the rev/load range.

Conclusion from that is that even on pump gas you have nothing to fear. The kit has about 1800 miles on it now, and we'll keep driving it as much as possible until the 15 WRX gets here. From what we're seeing there people are getting those DIT motors to 30 psi on pump gas with slightly lower CR, it makes sense that we can approach 20 on this motor with the BRZ and not have a instant block ventilation.

So your still running about e12 ish. Any guesses on the effective octane rating of that mixture? Is the power still significantly higher than the 210 at the same pressure?

Thanks for taking the plunge and doing this testing Mike.

Pump gas varies 8-12 here with e-content. Just plain old 92 or 93 octane. Most stations are advertised e10 or e15. But they still have 93 octane regardless, just probably start with crappier gas to begin with for the higher ones.

Power is significantly higher than the 210, but at the same pressure the two will be fairly close. It feels faster than the 210 on e85.

Yes and what an awful, difficult, toiling job it has been. I mean, all the tire smoke, dealing with g-forces from instant 280 torque, and constantly having to countersteer...hard job it is!

Will you be doing an off the shelf tune for the 335 Mike and would it be suitable for Ozzy 98 ultimate fuel ?

Apparently this is the equivalent of your 93/94 fuel I believe .

Thanks for the explanation on the octane. Any new thoughts on the feasibility of running this on 91 octane?

Yup, that's ready to go and fine. I'm comfortable with where it sits now.

I think its possible. It didn't need any changes at all after putting 92 in it, so I don't see it being a problem to do on 91. Maybe a few HP down, but otherwise it should run. The 85mm pulley being available makes that even more likely to be the case.

Okay Yoda, as long as it doesn't turn out to be just another Jedi mind trick.

Any updates Mike as to how the car is going re reliability etc ?

Is mpg still reasonable when cruising and how many miles have you clocked up with the 335 ??

Does the tuning package also include an E85 map? Or is this extra?

Almost 3k so far. MPG varies, but about 25 on winter pump gas with snow tires, warm up cycles etc.... Maybe 1 less than the 210 kit. If you are easy on the throttle I'm sure you'll get more and we can tweak the open loop stuff to get more MPG for those that want it, but that isn't the goal of this car. I'm sure if you popped it in CC at 70 mph you could see 30 when not on snow tires with winter fuel.

We always include all the variations at no charge. I build the base maps with everything already included, then it is just a matter of checkboxes for the final order.
