The Toyota 86 is now at NYIAS surrounded by glass and closed. But today I have realized something after findings a 2016 BRZ for comparison. Sitting in the new 86 which is marked as a Prototype felt way nicer. Even if the 86 represents a sort of premium trim and the BRZ I am sitting in is a Limited. The new placements of soft touch and Alcantara in the 86 makes it feels more upscale. I've gotten over the looks of the new car it looks great in person and I approciate the thought they put into the car for its aero. The seats are nicer the cloth seats were more comfty that the BRZ Alcantara, but that's my opinion. The New BRZ is probably better than the new 86 is some ways maybe if it maintained more trim levels. But being in the new 86 I stand by the statement that its better than the older cars in terms of interior. I think they know what they are doing and it will shut out the nay Sayers im some parts while in the others well nothing I can say. And like the front where people didn't like the steering wheel, I'd say see the new one put it in your hands my opinion is I like the feel of the new one better. I can care less about the buttons but the new thickness and the leather makes the old one look dated. But this is my my opinion. Please so see the new 86 if they let you and they might not. Sit in it and see the new items. Dont judge it by its pictures. It really is nicer in person.

After seeing a pic of the 50th Anniversary Corolla where they really took the Predator face to the next level, the new 86 catfish face isn't so bad afterall.

Jalopnik released a short preview around the 86, you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/jalopnik/videos
For those who were wondering whether NA will get a Toyota badge or 86 badge on the steering wheel, here you go: Also they had a short clip where they revved the engine (at 8:52 in the video), it may just be the microphone sound or my ears, but it sounds a little different from previous years. |
