Post pics of the video when you get it wired up please! The mounting on it is extremely clean, so if the viewing angle is nice I'll probably buy the same unit.

Will do. I may just do a temporary wire job in the meantime so you can see.

Is there a link to that eBay site? I found one on there for $120. $110 would be even better.

If you are looking for something besides e-bay I bought mine for $99 from:
http://www.al-eds.com/Rydeen-Mobile-...0B-p22239.html

They shipped fast and I received it fine, although I can't speak to how well it works yet since I haven't had time to install yet (maybe this weekend).

Thank you! Just bought it. Free shipping, also. Paid with Paypal as well. So, why would anyone need to only shop Ebay? I guess I'll find out if this is a counterfeit camera. Hoping not. If so, I think I can count on Paypal to make me whole, right? Again, thanks for the link, and wish me luck...

Finally installed the Rydeen Duo today after it sat on the shelf for a few months. Very easy install, took about 90 minutes.

could you take pics of how you tapped power for the camera?

Beautiful day outside today, I'm going to try and finish my install up after work. The amp power wire seems to tightly wound in the loom to get a tap connected to it. Also, the power wire from my camera seems to be of a smaller gauge than the amp wire. I'm afraid if I use a tap there, the tap may actually cut the amp wire, unless i'm missing something.

Right now I'm thinking that I may just extend the power lead and run it to the fuse box so i can tap into the same add-a-circuit that my radar detector is using, unless someone knows of a better way.

I'll be honest I copied the way of the original poster in stripping and doubling up the power wire and shoving it in the same hole as the green amp power wire. I did strip the tape back a bit and was going to use a different method but once this was tiewrapped/taped together and plugged in I could see it wasn't going anywhere.

I usually use these solder sleeve connectors which have solder in the middle which you melt with a heat gun, they work great. I was just going to cut the amp power wire in the middle so I could do a 2->1 junction. But I got lazy.

so basically just double over the power wire and shove it in the hole with a jewlers screwdriver or something like that?

And zip tie the two wires together so it doesn't slip out. I did this as a temp solution, I now have an AudioControl LC7i in place of the factory amp and the camera's power is set up the same. It is screwed in to the harness with the factory remote wire.

Several cameras work from OEM HU's 6V power lead

I have some great news: The Rydeen Duo and MINy cameras will work from the OEM head unit's 6 Volt camera power supply! Several Subaru owners have confirmed those cameras work.

I've found several other cameras that will work from 6 Volts.
Quote:
Ones I've found so far, with the manufacturers' published specs:
  • Rydeen Duo 3.5V
  • Rydeen MINy 3.5V
  • BOYO VTK200C 5V @ 70mA
  • BOYO VTL100 6V @ 90mA
  • AcceleVision RVC1000 5V
  • AcceleVision RVC1300, RVC1300N, RVC1307, RVC1307N 5V @ 80mA
I've sent e-mails to Rydeen asking for the minimum voltage on all of their cameras, but they haven't replied yet (probably still recovering from CES).

Will (Flat Black VW) says his shop uses one by VizuaLogic with a label saying it will work down to 3.x volts (I forget the decimal, and don't have the model number).

I have no doubt there are other cameras by all of those manufacturers with similar specs -- they're likely using the same "cores" inside multiple housings.

The Rydeen Duo and MINy cameras have dual taps on their power wire -- one near the camera and another near the HU. Rydeen's intention was that you power the camera by tapping your reverse lights wire (near the camera). The second lead would be available to provide the reverse gear signal to an aftermarket HU or monitor screen. But you can simply use the lead near the HU to power the camera (and insulate the lead near the camera).
More good news: The OEH HUs actually do only turn on the camera power lead when it's needed (not all the time that the HU has +12V Accessory, as we previously thought). For unknown reasons, the HU leaves the camera powered on for 60 seconds at boot up, and also after you shift out of reverse. That led people to think it stayed on 100% of the time (because nobody kept watching the voltage long enough). Huge thanks go out to a GT86 owner in Germany, who graciously took the time to thoroughly test his HU for me.

So the upshot is that with the Duo and MINy, you can easily power the camera by connecting their power lead to my power wire.

Anyone who ordered my camera RCA cable or harness without the power lead, let me know (via e-mail) and I can send you just that extra wire.

Accele's site does not list the voltage range for the RVC1150. You should definitely contact them and see if it will work down to 5 or 6 volts, as some of their other models do.

Barring that, there is an unused connector near the HU that has +12V Accessory and ground (as well as +12V Battery). You can connect straight to that, or add a relay controlled by the HU's 6V lead so the camera is only powered when needed.
