Sounds good to me!

Can anyone tell me how it should sound when you hit the rev limiter? I hit mine for the first time yesterday during a spirited bit of overtaking in third and it sounded more like valve bounce or detonation. I'm thinking the limiter might not have worked?
I was concentrating on the narrow bridge coming up.

Good to know we American's aren't the only ones with rare "phenomenon" drivers who blow DI seals. Interesting to note that there haven't been any cases reported in Great Britain, I think that says a lot

Well after reading this thread I'm effectively terrified to go to the track this weekend.

Depends on how you hit it.

On the initial hit, the engine generally just completely cuts power until the RPMs drop to about 7000. If you approach it slowly, it'll bounce like a Honda.

I had a WRX and it cut like that but this was different, like the cut out hadn't worked and it had gone way past the limit until it wasn't happy.
I'll try taking it there on part throttle to see if the cut out is working.

Thanks.

May of 2012 if I recall correctly. Stuck in the office till noon otherwise I'd check for sure

Edit: Considering I've had a CEL once before in an autocross and once on the track due to a misfire code, I'll probably swing by the dealer today and make sure I have the current software and/or get it.

Well this won't help you for this weekend, but I would coordinate with the dealer to have them apply calibration software update ZA1JA01C to your car (I doubt you have it since cars that were produced in 2013 would only apply).

This calibration file fixes:
Known Changes/Fixes: 1. Changes to transient spark control to resolve failing (direct) fuel injector seals caused by excessive detonation when changing gear at high engine speed (above 5200rpm).

For this weekend, you probably want to read through the DI threads, and understand the best way to avoid causing damage to your seals. The CSG guys can explain it better than me

Can you confirm that this is indeed available for BRZs?

Is there a TSB for this?

User track junkie confirmed his BRZ had ZA1JA01C installed via the dealer when he took it in. His car had a Feb 2013 build date.

I am not aware of a TSB for this, but it is possible there is one since I cannot get the details on the TSB's via Subaru's website since I don't have a subscrption. I am guessing someone here has a subscription and could dig around.

Otherwise we should see how the dealers respond to this pretty soon as several people are going to take their cars in for it.

I feel like if I called our local MN Subaru dealers about this, they'd just give me a blank stare. Has this fix been coordinated with the dealers yet?

I have no clue. And yeah, you may get blank stares for sure. I have a March 13 build date so I should be good to go. Once one person figures out how to get this updated, hopefully they will post the details in here so people can take it to their dealers.

I just got off the phone with my dealer. I couldn't recall if I had the reflash done earlier this year, however I asked if I could get an appointment to have the updated software installed before Sunday (track day, left that part out). He replied in a snickering voice "what for?" Almost like he was trying to get it out of me. I know the head tech I may just bring him a 6pack to do it. The service department is notoriously horrible at my local dealer. I'll try my best not to lose my shit when I go.
