Toyota was able to duplicate my 5th gear being extremely hard to get into when down shifting into it. Not grinding.

Corporate needed video of them shifting it to determine how to proceed so they did that yesterday.

What a pain. I had my tranny replaced in my last frs for grinding in 4th.

Sign me up for having the same issue as well.

Is it just me, or are there several different wide spread issues with this transmission?

So had to call the dealer for an update. They called toyota then called eventually called me back.

The dealership is saying toyota stated that it is a known issue but there is not resolution at this point. I asked if it would be ok to install my short shifter kit and he said I would need to call toyota about that.

In order for updates he said I should call back once in a while. Getting the feeling they are blowing me off.

Think its time to call soa and start bitching...again.

My car had similar issues. At approx 100km/h, if I downshift from 6th to 5th, there is a harsh grind. This happens with or without rev matching and only happens on the downshift from 6th to 5th.

I took the car in to the dealer and after a few weeks the full gearbox was replaced. Officially, the description is premature synchro mesh wear.

No point on replacing the tranny because the problem will resurface again. I would wait till they come up with a solution and go from there.

Well it's a good temporary fix. I doubt there'll be a fix in the near future

I doubt it's a temporary fix or they would have just replaced the synchros.
My guess is that they modified the box on later models. Can you imagine the cost of a new gearbox???

I took mine in today to be assessed. The guy checked the shift thoroughly up to 80kph and it was fine as expected. Then he tried it at 100-110kph and got the crunch straight away, changing down into 5th, he also felt it once changing up.
He said he would push for a new gearbox and rang me 30min after I left to say a new gearbox had been approved. It's in Sydney and will be over here ready to fit in a week.

Gotta say i'm very impressed and loving the car again.

My issue seems to have virtually disappeared after I replaced the clutch with an ACT clutch (to handle the turbo power).

I only say it's temporary because the problem is bound to come back at some point.

Damn, glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Mine grinds like mad when shifting into 5th, whether it be from 4th or 6th. This only happens when going anywhere near 65 MPH.

Taking it into the dealer on Tuesday to ask for a transmission fluid change / crickets issue.

I had them change the oil for a fully synthetic 75w/90 and it made no difference. It even did a grind from 6th to 5th at 75kph when I took it in for the new gearbox to be fitted.

The new box is lovely, tight cold 1st to 2nd again but slips in with about 3000rpm in 1st, so low rpm when cold only. The gear lever buzzes above 5000rpm, as it used to when new and I'm sure that will go with time again.

The old box is heading back to Japan for a post-mortem.
I hope they left a note to say the oil was changed after the problem developed.

Besides going to the dealer to get it diagnosed I hooe everyone opens a ticket with SOA. If its a known issue but they dont have a fix and your warranty is up im not sure they will honor a fix. If you bitch enough soa is authorized to give extended warranties.

In the Toyota dealership now to diagnose my 2nd tranny. First one would grind shifting into 2nd gear and when downshifting from 6th to 5th above 85kph.
It was replaced about 2 months ago and the new one started grinding when going into 2nd and 3rd below 3500 rpm almost right away. It's worse now and always worse when cold as expected.
Also I put in Motul Gear 300 at the dealership with their authorization when it was changed.

I will see what happens with this one but I expect it needs changing again.
This is getting stupid and I will call Toyota to open a file with them (or whatever the process is) but if tranny #3 has a problem, I will do what's in my power to get my money back. Too bad cus otherwise this car rocks.
