The horsepower wars have ruined cars, IMO. Too many people caring more about the spec sheet than the driving experience.
I come to my FR-S from a 2005 Mustang GT with a manual. High horsepower can feel nice. But I like the driving experience with the FR-S more than the experience I had with the Mustang. In a way it's like football vs. soccer. They just can't be compared, and each will always have its own fan base.

To each his own... Would disagree with the daily driver part though... My BRZ makes driving the hills/mountains in East TN a blast. So in that respect I'd say if you have a twisty road you'd find this car rewarding as a DD so don't totally discount it. Plus the gas mileage out of the car has been amazing even with my playing around! Def rather be in this car to drive around my area compared to those mentioned in the review. I feel like this car is everything my Integra was and lots more! Also, at least he didn't mention a Mustang!

Fast and slow are relative. 1st gear can often seem sluggish in this car as you wait until you get to the meat of the power band, but I can say it's definitely faster than my old Integra GS-R; and feels and sounds a lot more like the Integra Type R did (in a straight line that is). There are times I would like the passing ability of my MR2 in traffic. Still, the gearing feels amazing in this car. There's definitely not a lot of torque at the low end so in a lot of situations it's probably going to feel slower than you'd like. However, I think many other cars more properly deserve to be considered as having no balls.

For everyone who complains about the car's power, I think they're missing the point of this car.

I can tell you that from owning and tracking a WRX STI, i don't like the how the (wrx sti) feels in the turns. Don't get me wrong its probably the fastest car i have driven in the track and probably beats most of the cars in its class. It still turns like a pig. lot of weight transfer, body roll, just the feeling of heaviness.
But on the other hand, brz/frs isn't probably the fastest car in the track, but it feels 100x better than a STI.

I live in Florida where there are NO hills/mountains, no "twisties" at all, just plain old straight roads, and I LOVE my car and its my DD to a 50 mile roundtrip commute. I have never had to downshift to pass cars in the Turnpike. I know we all have different tastes and likes, but just sharing my opinion. I had never come to work with a smile in my face, and I do know because of the car im driving to work. LOVE the feel of this car.

Wait until you've owned your FR-S for a few years. It's going to rattle. All affordable sports cars will rattle, if they don't now, it's just a matter of time.

This is 100% true. Even guys with BMW and Audi's have rattles. All you got to do is google it too find out.

I cant believe the OP expected to enjoy the car when they obviously dislike auotmatics??? Why would they testdrive a car they would not consider buying and then post a negative review about the car... Im sure the OP might have had a slighty better review if they had test drove something they like (this maybe mind boggling to OP, but a manual transmission maybe something u like??)
I had a chance to test drive an auto, raven FRS but passed on it because i knew it wasnt what i wanted. Im sure if i would have test drove the car, i would have enjoyed it, but i guess i knew that car was for someone else...
Anyways, seems like OP found this car wasnt for him, not sure why he has to tell everyone... But good luck on finding the car for u

fun despite being relatively slow = the point

conclusion for me is that I'm keeping my GTI. I'm sure the FRS is a great track car but I don't think you'll get much fun out on the real world without driving wrecklessly (fast turns and stuff).

Eventhough the GTI and this car have the same power the GTI feels 10X faster (thanks to the torque given by the turbo).
I've learn that I prefer a car that feel faster than one that IS faster but feels slower.
My 6MT BRZ feels and is faster than my '95 5MT GSR was.

GTI = wonderful AT, great low/mid-range punch, mediocre chassis, feels disconnected, portly, nose heavy, plows, crappy MT

Every car is a compromise.
