Build thread shows a high of 393wtq but I usually drive it somewhere around 370wtq. I just replaced a transmission with a sheared 4th gear in a car that only made 350whp and ALOT less torque.

Any possibility the guy shredded his syncros because he can't shift properly, and that the transmission from the wrecked cars had drivers with the same talent?

I've stalked around the forums for a while now, and I've always thought about having a turbo BRZ, so I've tried to pay attention to those threads.

Heard lots of complaints about this car and FI.

This is really the first time where I've seen so many complaints about how the transmission gives out....

And you keep mentioning the synchros giving out, so is it FI or is it something unrelated thats screwing up your trannys?

My first transmission grinded in second straight off the showroom floor. Ive pulled coroded syncros from the fa20 transmissions in two separate cars on 3 separate transmissions both turbo and non turbo. Both 5th gear and 2nd gear. My transmission that sheared 4th was brand new and had excessive wear on the 2nd gear syncro but didn't grind yet. There is a syncro problem from the factory. My used transmission had excessive wear on the reverse gear but is holding up. Though 3rd crunched at -3 this morning. My car has no clutch drag and stock shifter. My current transmission has a cooler on it. Heat may be hurting these transmissions but it's too cold here to tell. Element tuning has the same findings as me last we talked.

Horsepower has nothing to do with syncros unless there is a heat issue but it's too cold for me to test that now. And I've only been monitoring transmission temps on my most recent one and its lasted the longest. But I've seen first hand 4th gear grenade at 350whp in my friends car and 450whp in my car. Both on street tires. Both rather violently.

From everything you've said in the last 3 posts... It sounds like you have bad luck with transmissions from the factory rather than the transmissions have issues with FI.

Synchros breaking? As you said, not HP/TQ related, so not FI related.
2nd gear grinding when brand new? Sounds defective
4th gear breaking, again w hen brand new? So unless you installed FI on a brand new car, this also sounds like you had crappy luck with a defective transmission.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass or anything, I just dont see how those 3 problems are caused by FI?

I actually said the syncro problem is not caused by FI and I've pulled bad syncros out of car that were not FI
I've said that multiple times. I even tried to take a dealer to court over it. (They said it was FI fault I said it was not) toyota agreed with me on it but it was not worth the lawyer costs when I found a few transmissions for 500$ each.

Shearing 4th gear is 100% FI. Me, @Synack, fullblown, evasive, element.....and a host of others have all sheared 4th gear around the 400whp mark.

So what about the threshold for AT's? I'm pushing about 300whp/225wtq with a trans cooler atm, has anyone blown them up yet?

Where did you find transmissions for 500? I'm going to need one. Fourth gear is a problem and second and fifth are becoming worse every time I drive

Damn. So I'm guessing you guys experience these failures while at the track or in some other scenario where you're shifting near red line right?

In other words, if I plan on mostly casual driving and just going to the track once in a while, my transmission should last longer?

How are you needing a gearbox when you're not even turbo?
