Subaru's paint process is different, resulting in much thinner paint, and the difference was quite noticeable seeing them all side by side.
Interesting and potentially troubling if "thin" Subaru paint isn't as durable as Toyota paint. What's different about the Subaru process, just the thickness or something else compared to the Toyota primer/base/color/(pearl, mica, metallic opt.)/clearcoat process?

I'll have to read up in the detailing forum about polishes and waxes best for Subaru paint. I've always used carnauba/water based Griot's products with a random orbital buffer on my Toyota/Lexus cars, but maybe a polymer product works better for "thin" paint.

The silver looks much better in person, in sunlight. It is pearl, with blue and gold highlights. Much nicer than Argento, and I'm feeling better about the color now. Interestingly, they were also displaying the rest of the Series 10 lineup, and (as a friend pointed out) you could really see the difference between the FR-S (painted in Subaru factory) and the rest (painted by Toyota). The thicker painted Toyotas had a much softer look, while the thinner Subaru paint looked crisp and helped the pearl to stand out on the body lines.
Thanks for the more personal POV. Glad to hear that my earlier "wait to see the color in person" sentiment has panned out.

The light-up shift knob was absent, probably to prevent theft. Again, no loss as I will certainly replace with the Toyota knob.
That mean I can call dibs on the light-up one? I'm willing to trade my stockie

here's something new i found out from my dealer today about the 10 series in canada, it won't be coming with the solar powered shift knob!

i just pre-ordered mine today right after my dealer confirmed that they are only getting 1 fr-s in manual. it seems like there are only 250 coming to Canada and 125 are manual. so get 'em while they're hot.

A/T's only get the solar knob.

Congrats on your pre-order, glad you got one while you can.

I was reviewing Toyota/Scion April month end and year to date sales numbers the other day (Automotive News). The two hottest sellers based on dealer stock are FR-S and Avalon Hybrid. After the favorable pricing announcement, pre-orders should really pick up.

I was not aware that the 6mt will not have the solar powered shift knob .I purchased a Wc Lathewerks titanium sphere.I'm guessing it will come with an original FRS 6mt shift knob.

You might be able to get a pre order in but people have been ordering these since April. There will only be 2500 and only 700m/t. Based on how many FRS's being sold monthly I would say the manual transmission Series 10 are sold out but it would be good to check around at different dealers to see if you can get one. I just seen you were from Cali where the majority of the Series 10 will be distributed so you should be okay just check large volume dealers in Cali

In MA, i am yet to find a dealer who can even take an order for one of these. They are completely out of loop when it comes to the Series 10. No one even has a clue and one asked me which Color do you want!!

Yea I was in the same boat as you, went to three different dealers who were clueless when it came to the Series 10. They tried to sell me base FRS but I eventually found a dealer that took my pre order .
