Cool. That’s so fun to be in the market. We have more to choose from now than ever before. I’ve never fired a .17HMR before, or even .22WMR for that matter. I’ve been kind of on the fence about a BRNO 611 for a few years, myself, although I might be priced out at this point.

That would be cool to own. I looked at a couple self loading 17HMR's, from my experience with some buddies that have them is they are very very dirty. When it first started to become a popular round the GM at the shop I worked at had a .22WMR rebarreled and converted to .17, it was very fun to shoot.

If that floats your boat, ok. I count 1x 2x … nx. Not really. My Xs are not that common. Honestly, I put on new age-y music and get lost in the process.

Nope. No idea at all. I’ve never even held one. They remind me a little of the H&K 300’s. I have a really hard time getting past that crudely cut checkering though. And while most seem to have pretty fancy walnut, the nicer ones bring a shockingly high premium. A very clean boxed example with great figure closed at $2600 on gunbroker the other day.

Few more Czech weapons:

D-Technik VZ58 and VZ61, and a CAI-imported CZ52 pistol. They’re just fun to plink with. I like that they’re all proprietary designs. The VZ58 and VZ61 have always struck me as really clever. Tool-less takedown. Very easy to disassemble. Mine both have long, mushy triggers. These early D-Technik VZ58 have no muzzle device or bayonet lug, but were able to retain the original barrels. The VZ61 is just fun. Zero felt recoil. The shells tend to eject ten feet straight up, landing a few feet forward and to the right. The CZ52 is notable for being a roller-locked design.

What I remember was it was an European brand, it had an oiled stock, it had checkering over the palm side of the grip, it had quite a .... swelling?... bulbous grip that used to curve into one's palm when held.

It had a heavy barrel chambered in 22-250. I couldn't use it at all standing, I swayed so much with it.

Rabbits didn't like it as much as I did.

Oh cool!

I absolutely love those old commercial rifles that were made in Europe during the interwar years. I tend to think first of Mauser, Steyr, and Husqvarna, but there were many. It looks as though that cartridge was a wildcat custom from about 1937 onward, and then made commercially available in 1965. Maybe Google images or gunbroker will have the answer. I’m especially drawn to the ones with period correct scopes. So neat.

I know what you mean about those heavy barrels. It’s weirdly frustrating to be unable to do offhand shooting at distance. I’ve sold firearms that became too heavy to be fun after scoping.

I've got a VZ2008 and can I just say how much nicer the milled receiver and design are over an AK?

Yup! I’ve tried about a dozen different flavors of AK, including a few of the 1.5mm RPK receiver types. They’re definitely apples to oranges. The VZ58 is so slim, and I’m a sucker for those early phenolic stock materials. I’ve only shot it a few times, but never contemplated selling it yet.

Well. Here’s my relatively basic, personalized 10/22:

It’s been shot more than anything else over the years, in various configurations. My grandfather bought me a standard 10/22 carbine sometime in the late ‘90’s, as a birthday gift when I was in school. It was carried across every inch of the family farm. The receiver is the only thing left, and I’ve cleaned that up a bit, and flared the ejection port a little, and had it Cerakoted in Sig Dark Grey. It’s just a very handy little offhand gun, with the barrel weighing almost nothing, and the whole package being about 5.5 lbs. These particular components seem to work well together, and I don’t recall a single failure of any kind since it was last rebuilt.

Factory Ruger receiver. Timney 2 lb trigger group. Kidd bolt. PowerCustom guide rod, recoil spring, and charging handle. TacSol scope rail and barrel. Magpul stock. Leupold PRW rings and VX-I 2-7x28mm rimfire scope. Polyurethane bolt buffer and hex takedown screw. I use factory Ruger 10rd magazines.
