I wanted my Google contacts to sync with the stock contacts app that opens via Google Now. And frankly I hate that the bluetooth sync contacts need re-syncing everytime I get in the car, and sometimes caller ID doesn't work. I tried loading a newer contacts app but it didn't work.

I found a post on XDA about it with another android HU (the one our root is based off) I believe it's a known issue that can be fixed with a combination of Go Contacts and TabletTalk, but I at least need to get my stock contacts app working again like stock so it stops force closing Google Now.

I've been reading different forums about the various Android head units, and think I'm gonna settle on this one. Biggest reason being the quick startup option.

Is the Ca-Fi store the only place to purchase, or are there other resellers here in the US?

Wow, so after installing your contacts and contactsprovider apks in the system (and clearing the cache/dalvik) I restarted and could sync my contacts with the stock contacts app. Not only that, I uninstalled and reinstalled google now and voila, now I can say "call [insertname]" and it starts calling [insertname], bringing up the bluetooth phone app and everything!

I'm not sure what did it, if my original APKs got corrupt or something, or maybe it's because I left the GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk I got from xda in the system folder, but whatever happened I can now voice call through google now and all is well with the world! Thanks again @DC2R!

Possibly, it actually didn't replace any existing apk in the system, so I didn't remove it when putting back the other 2 apks, but you can try placing it in your app folder to see if it does the same (if your contacts aren't syncing). It may be the missing piece.

Everybody in this entire thread seems so caught up in the android part of this unit but I'm not seeing anyone talk about audio quality. I'm looking at this head unit as a alternative to stock but as nice as it would be to have google maps...the main issue for me with stock is the sound quality is so bad (muddy, often too much bass or not enough, etc).

How's the actual sound quality of listening to music vs Stock ('14 BRZ)? Is there any noticeable improvement or is the weak point the oem speakers?

I just got my new '14 on friday and I'm finding myself just turning the stereo off after attempting to listen to it, it just sounds so terrible it seems like its not worth listening to. I'm coming from a 08' 135i with a oem stereo that was not the upgrade and its was many many leaps and bounds above this in clarity and balance.

Weak point is oem speakers, for the most part. I upgraded to OEM Audio+ reference system. Night and day!

I think the Pioneer/Bespoke head units are pretty solid.

Ca-Fi store is the only option as far as I know. Next best bet is eBay or buying from someone here that is selling theirs (but why would anyone want to do that? ).

So I bought the OBD2 adapter suggested here but I can't get it to work for the life of me in torque. It says connected but says it can't communicate with car....any suggestions?
