In 26 years of occupational health and safety I have seen several dozen people get canes. A lot of how they use them depends upon the nature of the injury, overall physical condition and personal comforts. The opposite side balance (as your wife said) is great if the person doesn't have the upper body strength or has other issues and is better if walking distances. The same hand take up the weight is the preferred method if there is the strength to support it and allows the person to walk faster but is more physically taxing.

According to my Occupational Therapy wife you use it on the opposite side of the injury. It should move with the injured leg to provide support.
I always get confused Random Pic Thread and Random Thought Thread lol

is this help?

This is pulled hamstrings and not broken/sprain leg.

Try both and see what feels more natural to you.
It's not bout taking off weight. It's more like how not to use my right hamstrings.

My friend told me to use the cane on the left (cuz I was holding it on the right), so I tried... but it's more painful to walk with it on the left.

Still about taking weight off or at least about distributing the weight differently.

makes sense. if you just injured it you have damage in there that still needs to heal. right now you need to heal the injury. then you can rehab it by adding more work load to it. just try not to let it get tight. you'll be setting yourself up for another injury.

give it a week then start adding non-weighted exercises to it and see how that feels. if everything goes well you can try switching sides and adding some work to get the blood flowing and begin rehabbing it.

go slow and be patient. you'll be fine.

You may have missed my expansion on the subject (Above) since we both posted at the same time.
Do which ever method is the most comfortable for your injury and tell your buddy to go pound salt if he doesn't like it.

Exactly! As much as it will hurt like a son of a bitch keep up with stretching it out by moving or things can get far worse.

Technically, I need to be resting for few days... BUT I don't got PTO to take few days off, so gotta do with cane (crutches are a bit overreacting imo). lol

Well, either way, I've found the cause of the pulled hamstrings, so I gonna be doing specific exercise in 2 wks.

I would... except, he'll be stronger than me. If I wasn't crippled, prob have chance of winning. lol

& no, even w cane, he'll have advantage over me.
