Most restaurants in the cities have english menus or pictures so it's easy to order.

The only place I had any sort of problem was one random bus route in Sapporo in the suburbs-ish that for some reason had no English announcements, but I just used Google Maps GPS and it worked out fine.
I know, but to be able to conversate with people is going to be tough if they don't know English.

I think I know enough basics phrases and words to be able to get by, but that's about it.

Also, learning Japanese so that I won't have to use subtitles to watch anime would be a big plus.

Hey I don't need to know a single word of Japanese in order to physically die of cringe at a maid cafe, thank you very much!

That is what I did, used Translate the whole time. The hardest time I had was the Subway in Tokyo. My dad and brother are learning the language now. I will probably try in the not to distant future.

Tokyo is really good as of when I've been there. Pretty much all signage has English. I think they improved things a lot in preparation for the Olympics a couple years ago. The hardest part is just getting lost at like Shinjuku station because it has 20+ different platforms and probably 2 or 3x as many entrances/exits.

I'm going to try and visit Rise Yokohama. It's run by guys who are in the Mid Night Club street racing / circuit time trials group. Supposedly only time trials on the circuit these days if it can be believed. But it would be awesome to check out the cars they have there.

I see. Yeah this was as of 2019/2020. You should go back when you get a chance.

Maybe... October? I can intro you to my 86/BRZ buddies. We're already planning a small meet at Daikoku PA again.

I always wondered how many wires were in a Lotus, so I got drunk last night and took them all out.

I don't think so. Clutch engages fine? Lights won't go on.
