I was at my buddies house helping him side his shop. Our other friend who lives a couple houses away came over with a giant grin on his face so of course we asked him, "what did you do?" Apparently he was falling some trees at his house and one of them popped and went the wrong way even though he had it heavily wedged. Took out his power and the power to like 5 houses around him

I didn't follow my own advice again and have had the same car insurance provider for 10 years. This renewal they jacked the rate by 20%, just because. I spent part of the afternoon getting competing quotes, and the highest quote back was about the same as the pre-raised premium. I ended up getting matching coverage for 20% less per year than I was paying before the hike.

If you've had the same car insurance provider for more than 5 years, shop around.

The stock suspension was really unforgiving in certain parts of the highway.

I did take it on a scenic drive, driving past the battlefields and monuments was absolutely beautiful. A lot of civilians walking around so no funny business, plus lots of park rangers.

I think some folks cannot fully appreciate it the extent of what it meant to be in a civil war, not only the fact that lots of people died, and it was fellow Americans against each other. For me it was more about taking a look at the scenery and picturing how much it probably sucked to be fighting in that terrain. Setting up camp, not having any sort of cover, just an open field, archaic equipment, it was just mind blowing. I would love to go again and do a more in depth exploring, but Im glad I got to see what I saw and visit the places I was able to.

I know this flies in the face of the point, but you're close enough to one of my favorite driving roads in PA - 233. You can take 34 back to Gettysburg if you're staying there. You could also take 233 through the mountains, then turn right on 74 and take that to Carlisle to meet up with 34 again.

Wife and I drove to northern Virginia to visit younger son for a week back in 2017. Spent a full day at Gettysburg. It’s really sobering. Standing by the Lee statue on Seminary Ridge looking across the valley toward the stone wall and monuments on Cemetery Ridge my first thought about Lee’s and Pickett’s decision making was “no fucking way.”

Going to the other side of the valley and standing on Little Round Top and behind the stone wall by “the bloody angle” was a special kind of depressing. It was a shooting gallery. Lee, Pickett, and Davis should have be the first on the line.

As much as I like reading and hearing about history, every time I have visited a war memorial felt like that. I went with my dad to check out the caves on Okinawa where the Japanese fought. Seeing some of the chambers where groups of soldiers committed suicide by grenade was a bit too dark for me. Same with Cave of the Virgins. Other tourists were taking pictures and it just seemed off to do so.
