I've got almost a dozen track days at MSR on the 1.7 (I comfortable run under 1:30 both directions), 20 people is no problem (even with some slow people). When you get closer to 25 people you start running out of space.

The most aggravating guys are the slow people in fast cars who blow down the straights and stop in the corners, since nearly everyone will be in twins, this shouldn't be an issue. Also, the faster guys on the list (that I recognize at least) are all good guys who won't harass the noobs.

The biggest safety issue I see, is that with so few sessions the slow guys won't have a chance to learn enough to get faster and could make some mistakes trying to follow some of the faster guys (mid-corner lifting and inducing spins is my concern, there is enough runoff room that under-steering into the grass isn't too big of a safety concern).

The Porsche Club used to run time trials out at Mineral Wells (they called it the "Mineral Ring"). If MSR is too much of a hassle, that could be a more approachable alternative. They might be open to an event, especially with a guaranteed turnout. Looks like Travis Howard (tt@mavpca.org) is the time trial chair and Mark Schnoerr (ax@mavpca.org) is the autox chair.

I have a cruise course that I made a few years ago for the Subaru guys, I could bust it out and check all the routes for construction/changes as a final option (Cruise route).

You have a min of 2 in the 1:25. I don't mind backing off the pace for the newer drivers.

I have been to MSR probably 40+ times. My best is a 1:23.47 not on slicks and N/A. I don't say that as a brag but to highlight the speed differences when someone new/newer to the track is likely going to be 17+ seconds or so a lap slower with 20mph less speed through many of the corners. Learning to track is overwhelming enough without someone barreling down on you.

Frankly the advanced drivers likely don't need their own run group. Not sure if MSR would go for this, but we could give the two stand-alone sessions to the newer participants and run the more advanced drivers with the normal members day sessions.

This would be my first time on a track as well, but I am open to a different date.

I was only looking at splitting it that way cause the number of advanced was much higher than either the novice or intermediate. I can ask Chris about us running with the members, not sure that's possible. If it is then anyone driving with them will be required to wear a racing suit and helmet.

I'm cool with what ever you decide...I'm new to this and have seen how experience plays a huge factor. I've only done a TNIA event at MSR and as a novice, traffic was an issue but still enjoyable. Best run I could get was 1:33. Since we have the AutoX event the day before, rescheduling wouldn't be a bad idea.

Oh man that's a bummer! The time trials with the PCA in Mineral Wells are really fun too. It's just harder to find the track because it's just cones. But they do parade laps at reduced speeds beforehand too.

I don't have that much experience at MSR. I've done the 1.3 with the PCA in my WRX (love the 1.3), and I did a TNiA on the 1.7 with my BRZ with just tires and a front sway bar, I think I was in the low 1:30's at that point. Hopefully a lot faster now with all the new suspension stuff and wider tires.

I have one track day at Cresson with the EVO owners group in 2013. I pointed as much as I shifted. Most likely the slowest car in the crowd. Can't see my experience being much different with the plan as presented.

The track time offered by MSR appears to be not worth the cost in travel time, car preparation, and accommodations. I'll join those who are bowing out.

My buddy traded in his 86 for an Z4 M, would he be allowed to run with us if this ends up happening at MSR? He has 1 trackday at CoTA, none at Cresson.

Yes he would be allowed.

Right now this is not happening on 8/6/2017, to many people have backed out. Possible future date to come.
