It turns out my car came with pre-stripped seat bolts as a dealer installed option. 3 weren't terrible and I was able to hammer the torx socket onto them to get them out. The fourth is all but completely rounded off. I hammered down the socket, but felt it slip with next to no pressure. I live in a townhouse and was working in my driveway, so don't want to make too much noise after dark. I'll take a look in the daylight tomorrow and see if it is something I even want to try to take care of, or just take it to a shop and pay the lazy tax. I'll also have stop by Subaru and pick up 4 new bolts.
So ummmm why did the dealer have the seat bolts out in the first place? Or at least why did they attempt to take them out?

The seat covers were replaced under warranty due to rips in the leather at around 30,000 miles.

When I got it back the plastic cover on the bottom of the seat wasn't installed properly so the seat back wouldn't latch fully (handle stayed up a bit), the airbag sensor cable was loose which caused the light to come on, and the tech forgot to bolt the bottom of the seat belt back in. Although I'm not entirely sure why they unbolted that in the first place.

To be fair, I guess it is possible that some vandal broke into the car without setting off the alarm and stripped the bolts knowing that one day I would regret it, but my money is on the dealer tech over-torquing them while reinstalling. I also wouldn't be surprised if the issues I'm having with the seat are somehow related to the cover replacement, but saying so feels like a stretch even with how pissed off I am about the whole mess.

i, a millennial, write 2 checks a month.

1 for the water bill, because the town charges a fee to accept credit card payments.

1 for the mortgage, because the bank it's through requires me to have a checking/savings account to do online payments that i don't have and have no need for.

What kind of a rear axle/suspension does the truck have?

Which removed 7 of them very quickly (I did both front seats) and stripped the 8th and final bolt very quickly too!

I used a torch to heat up the bolt and a wrench wit a long cheater-bar on the handle. Then it finally came out! (careful not to scorch your carpet like I did! LO!)

Good luck!
Do you folks know WHY the bolts for the seats have that skinny, little, weird shaped head?

Because they are to DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM TAKING OUT THE SEATS!

If you have worn out the seat, it's time for a new car.

Regular solid axle. I don't get it. My dad ran the truck up a flag pole once, but that was like over 2 years ago. I've driven it back and forth from California to Idaho several times, even pulling the car hauler. You think we would have noticed a problem. It is like it came out of nowhere.

Those bolts are really easy to take off with the proper tool. I'm not exactly the best at this mechanic thing, but I was able to remove the bolts and take out my passenger seat in a reasonable amount of time.
