Welp, I've finally done it. I finally asked someone higher up for more work instead of just asking around in my area.

That can go two ways.


They can think you are a great employee and give you some extra work which is what you wanted. At review time you can ask for more money.


Or...


They will review the job and decide that they don't really need anybody in that position. The fact that you asked would probably work well for you even in this case though since they may move you into something else.

When they gave me this role they absolutely needed/wanted me. So bad in fact, they gave me a raise (which they still haven't fixed in the system two months later...) which I'm told never happens for internal transfers. The role is considered a promotion and I gained a new title (still fuzzy on this one, but Management is in there somewhere), but the HR lady was super surprised when they offered me more money.

I have done very useful things since I've been here, but at this point maybe i did too good a job? The two projects I'm working are basically on autopilot at this point.

Oh, and they would probably move me before firing me since I'm more of an "asset" than an employee. I work for a company that supports others as their business model. So I'm currently a contractor. If they decide I'm not needed here, they'll put me on a different account.

Meh it is only money. We just bought a new boat yesterday. The dealer is making up a sticker for the name I gave it.

I think I have a plan. Right now I have a car fund and I've been aggressively saving this year, stuffing as much money into that account as possible. The dangerous thing is I currently have more money than I've ever had my entire life. My 401k contribution is maxed and matched, I'm intimately familiar with my monthly expenses (accountant by trade) and despite a few obsessions (craft beer, beard products) my spending is fairly controlled. Even if you don't include the car fund I have a pretty tidy emergency fund as well, so self-control is key here.

That being said, I have a plan. My 86 is a lease, a corporate benefit my dad was kind enough to share with me (and a damn sweet deal), which I just pay him for directly. He's planning on retiring in about a year, before the lease is up. I will have to give the car back or buy it. Now, the car fund I mentioned is for a classic I want to own at some point (undecided which classic), but I could use it, if it's high enough at that point, to buy the 86 outright, and maybe even mod it then.

I just don't know if I want to do that because I'd be giving up my car fund, basically starting from scratch, albeit with more money in my budget to save even harder.

One way or another you will have to replace the car when the lease is up. If you use your current cash then you can sock away the monthly payments plus the interest on them instead of paying it out. You could rebuild your car fund in a hurry and actually "make" the money you would have spent on financing costs.

Yeah, it makes sense to use the cash rather than get a new loan and continue having payments, plus insurance (lease comes with insurance). I paid off my student loans earlier this year, so that is already being invested. Add in the car payment I would be saving and I'd easily have $500+ to save each month. With my budgeting I could throw in an extra grand here and there.

Don't think it would be a big issue between our two kids and the will is very clear about who get's what. We have it worked out that everything we have bought will be paid off when I eventually get to retire so they will have the house and a bunch of 15 to 20 year old toys.

Well, you could always get married and start a family - that should take care of any excess money you may have -
