I took a picture for you guys yesterday. If you look closely, you can see they left two divots as drill points in lower grill actually. I don't think the holes there would be too noticeable, but I can't imagine how much air you're blocking from the radiator with a plate smack in the middle of your only air cooling source...

There's a distinct difference between not requiring plates and possibly not being able to leverage a fine for an offense. Section 504.943 still maintains that it is a [Edit:added] misdemeanor offense to not properly display a front license plate (and the location clause was respecified to include immediate front of the vehicle - the Appeals Court had already sided with an Amarillo court decision saying that front of vehicle did not mean anywhere else but the front bumper).

The oft-reported issue is that 504.943 no longer specifically says that this offense can be punished by a fine, but the Attorney General office is looking to make a clarification such that courts could enforce the intended (but missing) general fine for anything in Section 504, so drive without one at your own risk

Took a while to find them - they are tiny. I bet those are intended for attaching the bottom holes of the plate, not the top ones. They would be too low for the top ones, they would block the air too much.

Here is where I want the plate, enough air flow, you can see the holes would have to be higher than those you show above:

This is my preferred solution thus far as it utilizes the existing tow hook access point and the back plate has 8 mounting positions. Oh and it's $60 btw http://rhoplate.com/index.html

This just might change my mind (instead of a Rho-plate) as to how to mount the plate. I presume that since it is attached in a similar position to the lower mounting hole described above there is little or no chance of damage (can someone confirm?).

Are you referring to damage to the painted surface?

I want to to mount plate under upper lip in the mesh area to the left facing the car and drill into the bumper like area. Just don't know what's behind it, I think the air flow restriction would be enough to cause overheating. I'll be checking the dealership soon. See below:

But really, I don't think it's a big deal to just put the plate where it belongs since it's not like you're going to constantly put them plates on then take them off, so it's not like having two holes in there is going to be an eyesore.

My dealer installed mine down in the mesh area without me even asking them. They put all the front plates in that location. I've seen other dealers mount them up where they're supposed to be, as well.

Honestly, I like mine where it is.

The best option is to not have one and take the ticket.

"my front plate is gone?!?", "it was on last night!" Theft, not your fault.
.
.
.
Ticket is dismissed from the court clerks window, never set foot in a courtroom, but you have to buy new plates. Last time I did this(14 years ago), it cost me $7.20 for the new plates and 15 minutes of my time.

That new front plate is sitting right next to the old one

I've been pulled over specifically for the front plate 5 times in 20 years, and it's been mentioned after the fact(no ticket) about 2-3 more times after being stopped for speeding. And only once a ticket was issued...20 years.

Just got my first ticket for no front license plate yesterday in NJ. I think they are doing a ticket blitz because I see like 3 cops on my 15 minute commute to work (across Princeton University). I've had my car for 9 months and no problems so far...

First thing they asked me was "Did you know that the front license plate was required?"
Then it was "Did the DMV give you one plates or two?"
Then "Do you have the other plate with you?"

I wonder if I had answered yes to the last question what the cop would've said. I think having the other plate in the car would've been implicitly admitting that you know about the law.

Alas, a BS ticket. Cop also gave me a warning for having my V-1 mounted suction cup to the window, which is also BS but I guess a $10 clip can fix that.

I could only think of 3 options when I was pulled over:
1) Didn't know- I see cars drive around without them all the time <-- chose this one, since I didn't wanna argue with the cops and my friends get away with this one for their tints
2) My car's a lease, I don't wanna drill holes and have to pay repairs <-- doubt this would work, but it is a valid point
3) I'm from Texas (which I am), which doesn't require plates <-- wasn't sure about that hahaha

I can't use the "stolen plate" bit because I don't even have holes drilled. Also I love that motorized plate but I agree in the fact that it might get damaged if you drive over bumps and stuff. Any thoughts?
