I ordered my BRZ with the diffuser after looking at another one at the dealer who had it installed. It's purely a looks thing and the diffuser easily paid for itself with the money the dealer took off of the asking price, so why not?

My only question is how well I will be able to fit an aftermarket exhaust into it.

I'm surprised a knockoff isn't available yet.

Yeah, I'd have figured one would be out by now.

Fwiw, I think borla is making one that might be semi functional. Prob br cheaper than this hot mess too.

I feel like the borla diffuser is more subtle

Well, to fit without any modifications yeah. But the tinkerer in me says you can make that fit with any exhaust aside from the duel fart can styles. Might take some cutting and different angles and probably improvised hardware but I think it'd be worth it.

I asked the dealer for one without it, but it came from the port with it. Luckily I paid invoice for my car and the options by getting two of at least 6 local WA dealers to fight over USAA/Costco car buying quotes, so it was just over $600. The markup on these cars can be scary without internet pricing.

I'm not complaining, it does look good, and will look better in time with a decent exhaust as others have said.

When you match it with the STI Subaru tips from Japan, it looks really nice. Without the larger exhaust tips (catback would be the same) it does not look that great. I have it with the STI tips and it adds more powerful look to the back end of the car.

Went looking around and there are a bunch of knock offs, eBay has a lot for 99$ and in the group buy section here there is one for 178$. Just copies of the oem one

This is functional. Creates a low pressure by concentrating airflow. It would be better in carbon fibre. And won't make your oem tips look too small either.

The problem with that, is it needs to be paired to the TRD high response exhaust just like the Borla diffuser needs to be paired to their exhaust.

I'll look into it to see what makes the difference. Does anyone know what other types of mufflers work too?
