The Good:

The kit and my engine made it through 2 days of intense road course duty in the blistering heat.

Toan's (ptuning's master tuner) etune was fantastic on track. Power delivery is smooth and instantaneous (which is very mysterious as this turbo is quite large). I forgot I had a turbo out there as there is no "lag" or "transient delay" which is something I was worried about dealing with.

He also has many failsafe systems in place like overboost protection, high coolant temp deactivates the boost solenoid, lower fan activation temp etc. I can tell he has put a ton of time and effort into this tune. I would highly recommend etuning with him as he is very responsive and thorough. He will call you to discuss things with you at length which was surprising as I had never experienced that before with tuners.

On the street this etune feels like a stock calibration in that it is buttery smooth and generates amazing low end grunt for it being a GT3076. Serious voodoo magic going on here.

The Bad:

The ambient summer heat + the added power this turbo system creates overloads the cooling systems (both coolant and oil). A perrin 13 row setrab cooler will not suffice. After 2-3 hot laps in the heat the oil temps were heading north of 260F and coolant was heading north of 230F. Both the stock radiator and the koyo exhibited the same weakness. There might be another explanation for the high coolant temperatures but this theory needs to be proven first (something to do with where the water coming from the turbo is exhausted back into the coolant flow).

The heat of the exhaust piping melted the supplied sway bar bushing (the ptuning kit comes with a new sway bar and bushing). Apparently, Ptuning is taking care of this issue in the form of a heat shield of some sort. They are sending me a free bushing and a heat shield to test out.

The Ugly:
I went through a quarter tank of 100 octane ($9/gal) per 20 min session. My wallet took a massive hit... (100 octane just for peace of mind in the scorchin heat). This car at ~270 whp drinks a lot of fuel now. Hahahaha

Conclusion:
Car is freakin awesome! Prior to this kit I had the innovate twin screw. I like this a whole lot better.

(No it is not an off-road track lol)
Thanks for the great write-up Kevin. We love seeing our turbo systems being put to the test around a track. You Cali guys are doing a great job of getting your cars on track on a consistent basis too. Glad you're enjoying our responsive eTune and turbo set-up. We're actively working on the water temps readings and should have some new info for you shortly.

Looking forward to the water temp findings! For the record, I also saw ~265F oil and 230F+ water temp readings with a Koyo radiator and dinky Perrin oil cooler. After doing some datalog analysis, we can see that I'm only using part throttle around the whole track, so the car is no where near its max potential (me --> novice driver). You're using partial throttle because you have gobs and gobs of endless power haha!

I've put together some graphs to show the rate at which the temperature drops during a cooldown lap. I can put one together to show how it rises, but it just climbs steadily lap after lap. Not sure how to display that in a way that provides value.

This was on the second day of the 2-day event, which was MUCH cooler (~85-90F ambient). The first day (~105 ambient), we saw temperatures more than +15F on top of these numbers.

Orange: oil temp
Cyan: water temp (known AiM Solo bug, reads low, so add +18F to it)
Green: speed mph
Blue: throttle %

X-axis: distance (feet) Left side is the starting line, right side is the end, which loops back to the starting line.

Best lap, going all out (part throttle all out :p)
Oil temps were holding steady at around 240F
Water temps were peaking at 216F on the long WOT front straight

Cooldown end-of-session lap immediately following the previous lap
Oil temps gradually come down
Water temps drop like a rock within the first 4 turns to a very happy 190F

Thanks for the data. I'm sure with some more seat time, you'll be using more and more of your available power going around the track.

The first part of my turbo water line theory will be tested this weekend. Given all the information I have so far though, I'm fairly confident that the water temps for the guys running on track have been in check all along. We'll find out soon enough though.

Here's a flyby of my car at the track (3rd car that goes by). This should be going 100+ and WOT.

Oh snap, is that the PTuning oil cooler on my car? ;-) Thanks @Mrc@ptuning and @ptuning. Now I can do more laps at the track! I like the bleeder valve too, nice touch.

Video at Grange Motor Circuit with the PTuning oil cooler installed. Giving it a good run for its money in 96F weather.
