Yep you got the order correct. Back when new the convertible was rarer and they cost about the same. Very few wagons survived though since they got driven further and harder.

Just needs adjustment. Unless you have been drifting or driving around with it on.

Should be a clevis inline that can suck up a bit of cable length.
If that's been turned up to max already, you've been doing a lot of handbrake turns.
New cable time.

I just adjusted the drum brakes in the back. Couple of clicks on each side and it's like new again.

no, I didn't know. Let us know how it goes. We will be driving by there in the afternoon. We are going to the mountain house for hors d'oeuvres.

Pretty busy. Just left a bit ago to get breakfast at Alice’s. So many cars that there’s nowhere left for parking. But definitely some interesting ones. Getting there early was good.

What’s the process like? Might need to bring it into a shop..

Lol no drifting. Usually don’t drive with it on although the first month I owned the car I accidentally had it a couple notches engaged once for about a mile but it’s never been a problem before and that was over a year ago. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you can lift the car and take the wheels off, then you can do it yourself with a flat head screwdriver. You use the screwdriver to turn a little gear in the drum. I'm pretty sure our drums have an access hole so you don't even need to take it off. The tricky bit is turning it the right way and getting both wheels even. Just have to use a bit of trial and error until you are happy with it.

Back in the day (when most brakes were drum brakes), we would turn the little wheel till the brake shoe locked against drum, then back off till the car's wheel turned freely.

My dad taught me a little differently. First, adjust the cables so that they just go a tiny bit slack. That way the linkage under the drum is at rest against its hard stop.

Next we'd wedge up the shoes nice and tight with the adjuster to get them centered. Finally I was to back off until the shoes just barely touched the lowest part of the drum. (They're never perfectly round.)

After a quick drive and a couple pulls, you can verify for yourself that this adjustment method is sound for the 86. If you lift up the rear of the car and spin the wheels, the brake shoes will no longer be scrubbing the drums yet you will need at most 3 clicks to secure the vehicle on a moderate hill.
