(I know this isn't true before someone goes all pedant about it)

Well if you think about it, they basically just rearranged the word "Honda" by:

1. Squeezing the top of the 'H' into an 'A'
2. Take out a piece from the 'o' and made it into a 'c'
3. Flip the 'n' upside down into an 'u'
4. Rotate the 'd' and add that extra piece from earlier back to make an 'R'
5. Keep the 'a' as is.

It's like how the "Edwin" in Edwin Jeans is just a rearrangement of the word Denim.

Must be some JDM thing.

There are no JDM Acuras. Not a single one. Never has been.

@Ultramaroon, wife drove the twin to work for the first time since slave swap. First thing she said when she got home is how the clutch is way better.

I'm sure Honda was a Japanese company back in the 80's. These days I'm not so sure.

In Hong Kong the authorized importer Reliance (where my parents got their new '82 Honda Accord EX) always brought in official export yet JDM spec up until around 1991 when they introduced the Acura brand and separated the showrooms. By around 1996 even the official export yet US spec but RHD Honda Accord started to show up.

Honda's Japanese website had a wealth of info of their cars past and present back in the mid 90's when I used to drool over them on my 486 and 14" SVGA monitor, including most if not all of their past catalogs and press photos.

I think Tcoat's point was that Acura was not a "Japanese Domestic Market" brand and no Acuras were sold inside Japan. Acura was only for markets other than Japan.

JDM is a slang term son!

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELJW-Bsrnmk[/ame]

Seriously JDM was a 3 letter abbreviation that you would always see on Japanese press releases from honda.co.jp when they announced new products. That's where peeps on vtec.net picked it up from on the interweb. USDM was a joke term.

BTW there was never a need for the Acura brand in Japan because Honda has really well defined separate line-ups thru its three dealer networks; Clio, Primo, and Verno.

Toyota didn't introduce Lexus (Luxury Export to United States) in Japan either up until the 2nd gen IS. Nissan has Premium Factory.

Didn't Ronald Reagan caused the Japanese car makers to introduce high end exports in lesser volume due to US import tarrifs and the requirement of establishing factories inside the US?
