I have only driven by one FRS/BRZ around town while going the same direction, he waived, I waived back. Usually if they are driving the opposite direction , I cant see the driver in the car very well and don't attempt. One time I went to the mall (I always park in the back away from other cars), I came out to find another FRS (same color / spoiler) had parked next to me (with a courteous two space separation) . The guy was real nice and we talked about the car(s) for a few minutes before I had to leave to go back to the office.

Was stuck in rush hour traffic yesterday next to another BRZ (black). I had to look over at him for about 5-10 seconds before he looked back!
 When out for lunch today I waved at another BRZ as I drove past him (he was pulling out from a parking lot). He then passed when when I slowed to turn...he wouldn't even acknowledge me. assholes!

Finally got some love today from someone... and it wasn't even someone in the twins. It was a brand newish Subaru Impreza STI though. Quite a few people around here with these cars, I give courteous waves everytime, and mostly get ignored. Harumph.

Depends on location, i'm in south florida and i've bumped into a lot of 86 owners always got an acknowledgment back even from WRX's, genesis and evos lol. I had one guy in a corolla who was sitting on these god awful 22" chrome wheels asking me all sorts of questions.

Non enthusiasts don't understand the wave, heck they might not even realize you are driving the same car as them. I don't think I have gotten a wave from one yet.
