I drive 70% hwy, 30% city on a 45 mile commute every day. I beat the piss out of the car every chance I get and still manage 29 mpg every tank.

Are you guys that are near 30 using 93 octane and up? Best i can get is 91 and i get about 22 mpg... But i prefer to be above 2500 rpm all the time if i can and probably closer to 3000rpm for most city driving

A few other things to take into consideration:

- gas octane won't make a huge difference between 91 and 93 octane
- what altitude you are at makes a large difference for mileage (http://www.ehow.com/about_6744997_ef...s-mileage.html)
- if your car is modified/lowered, even if the tires are changed out, those all make a difference on mileage. Sticky rubber can reduce your efficiency by as much as 5% by simply adding more rolling resistance.

LRR tires are only good for about 1 - 2 mpg. I suppose if you go the extreme opposite (really grippy tires) you're standing to lose 2 - 3 MPG at most.

I wasn't referencing low rolling resistance tires... was mainly comparing stock vs aftermarket rubber, which a lot of guys run.

A lot of mileage numbers are not directly comparable if there's no context inserted.

With E85, I get anywhere from 21 to 25 mpg on my work commute.
Not that great, but it's also $0.75 – $1.10 less than premium gas too.
Oh no no no. Please don't feed your car E85 fuel. It's not designed for that food and it will hurt your engine. I'm not just saying this. Please google the harm of E85 on engines.

It's ok, my car loves drinking E85 haha.
If it ever breaks/blows up because of E85, I'll be the first one to post about it... gotta pay to play.

Drive it like I stole it, 24~mpg in my daily commute. My rx8 did 16 (and ate oil for lunch), so I'm happy.

That website is full of shit, it says lower compression = better gas mileage.

Altitude makes maybe a couple percent difference between sea level and say 5000ft, you only gain back maybe 30% of pumping losses.

Lots of people on this forum run custom tunes designed for E85. I guess time will tell whether this has a reliability impact. It's not for everybody, that's for sure.

I go out of my way to run ethanol-free fuel because my cars (MY00 and MY03) weren't designed to drink corn...

Just tried 94 oct with ethanol again, more power, more torque, more mpg, and hella lots of crickets not sure if its worth it, its so annoying

same here! 2 gas stations with 91 no Ethanol. No gas stations with 93 no Ethanol here so...91 only for me. I average 25-27 with stop lights galore on highway roads. Stupid Nebraska roads. On regular interstate, roughly 29-31.

Only have 91 10%e available around the NW without gymnastics finding non-e.
The dash gage has been a steady 32.5 for months after the battery flatted in April.
I only use the M/T FR-S for road trips though.
I have motorbikes for grocery getting and short hops around the burg.
Those get 50 and 38 mpg.
