I believe it got blown out by the massive pressure created by the ram air system. The only material strong enough to plug the hole was masking tape. I mean really, have you ever tried to take old masking tape off of something? Indestructible.

If MAF sensor got blown away by pressure, then one should double check intake welds, as there is danger to manifold!

Funny story, I've actually seen the welds on an intake blow....

Actually from the little bit that can be seen the welds held up just fine. The material adjacent to them didn't do so well though.

Yeah, in fact the weld held fine, but the metal that the intake was made of ended up splitting.

IIRC what had happened was Mad Mike's wastegate got stuck and the engine over boosted.

Too many Doritos.

Should have had his laptop with the manifold warning up and running! Hope it didn't blow the floor out of his car.
