My understanding from reading up on two-cycle oil on the oil forum is that you want ashless because it burns away cleaner and leaves nothing behind.

I'm currently testing Marvel Mystery Oil, another product I read about on the oil forum. I've run one tank on it so far. The crickets are noticeably quieter, but they're still there. However, I also noticed that the direct injection clacking has gotten MUCH quieter. I don't feel any difference in how the engine responds, but it definitely sounds a bit more civilized and less like a tractor.

Mine had the crickets pretty much immediately after I bought it. They were less loud with a full tank but got louder as the fuel level dropped. I have about 1100 miles on the car currently. Today I filled up with Ethanol Free 91 octane (We don't have\need 93 or 94 in the mountains of colorado due to the high altitude) and within just a few miles, the crickets were gone. I drove about 150 miles today and never heard them once. Additionally, the car seems to run with noticeably smoother powerband. Unfortunately I had to pay $4.59 per gallon but, so be it.

This is true for me. They go away with a full tank and as I'm nearing empty, I can hear them. Solution... I just fill up more often.

Hi guys, been a while since my last post and I'm happy to say that after the 1st checkup of my brand new GTS86 Auto, no more crickets. But a new issue has arisen. I'm finding that at a roundabout or at a stop light, when I take off, between 30-37kms p/h, the car revs real high, then kicks into 2nd and drives normally. Not sure if this is something that I should be worried about. Can anyone assist before I take it back in again.

This may not be exactly dedicated to our cars, but I was researching the 2 cycle oil treatment and found this forum where a guy did some extensive testing. Read up if you like. I think I'm going to go this route as well and see how it does.

Update on my crickets. I got them pretty much since week 1 (oct/2013) until I figured that putting E0 V-Power gaz got rid of them. Was happy but felt a bit limited since only Shell V-Power has no ethanol around here and the moment you drive out a bit than nothing exist, no E0 at all.

With the warmer weather, they woke up a bit but just a mild case. Got 2.5oz of Lucas upper cylinder... in the tank and presto. Gone. I also notice lately that 91 oct, althought OK, is not the designed 93oct (read it in the manual if I recall correctly) and you hear clearly quite often some pinging when you accelerate, or even when blipping the gaz pedal. I just filled my tank of Petro-Canada 94 E10. The crickets came back as loud as I ever heard them. Since it was all part of a calculated plan I had a quart of Lucas Semi-synthetic 2-cycle motorcycle oil. Added 2 ounces to tank and the crickets went away completely. As for the pinging, the jury is still debating but I think it works better now. Time will tell and I will report on results afetr a few tanks and with warmer temperature.

This is not true for me. The crickets do not care how much gas I have in the car. However, they do seem to care what brand of gas I give them. A full tank from Sam's Wholesale club sounds like the whole swamp is singing under my hood.

Most likely the cause was not the temperature change, but a change in gasoline blend. The gas distributors change the blends with the changes of the seasons. I am absolutely convinced that the additive packages in the different blends of gasoline are what causes the crickets to be louder, softer or quiet.

Correct. But trying a thicker oil is an experiment as well. And fyi to all. Stay away from BP gas they have strange additives in their gas and if you do or have use BP for some time check your spark plugs. It changes the color of the tips to orange as proof. That BP uses some strange additives in their gasoline

So I just put a couple ounces of the Lucas Oil 2-cycle in and filled up. My crickets have been very loud and annoying for a few thousand miles now. I've mostly just been trying to ignore them. Anywho, I drove to pick my son up and within 15 miles, they were gone and the car hasn't exploded yet.
