I thought I read in the manual that I shouldn't change the factory oil until 5k miles, but I don't feel right about leaving it in. WWYD?
It depends on the track. Do you have a track map?

We did some track time on the factory oil, but I'd recommend a quality synthetic sooner rather than later.

Can you give me the approximate cornering speeds at each turn, and the top speeds on teh straights?

any advice for running streets of willow counter clockwise?

i havent decided if im going to take my miata or brz but i figure their power/weight is pretty similar and aero is not too significant on this track i figure some of the tips would translate well.

exit speeds are key to fast laps. Don't rush the entries.

Lots of decreasing radius turns. Don't cook your entries; make sure your exit speeds are there (because that forces average speeds to go up too)

Don't forget the Rocket Start, which is performed by accelerating when the number "2" begins to fade out. Works every time.

I have only been there once before, so I can't remember all of them, but the front straight is ~125 mph in my WRX. If I had to guess the BRZ MIGHT do 110 mph? Basically from the exit of turn 15, until the entrance of turn 3 is all >80 mph and that is about 25-30% of the total length. I think the back straight is in the ~ 90 mph range, but I can't remember for sure (its been almost 2 years since I was there). I am still curious which set you would choose and why, but after sleeping on it I think I have a plan.

If I put the beefy wheels on, I would feel compelled to put better brake fluid in. I am fairly sure I won't boil the fluid on stock tires, but I COULD on the RS3s...I think.

After adding up all the pros and cons, I think I will keep the factory oil fill (this time) and in the interest of not taxing the motor too much (and not really having time, or feeling like bleeding my whole brake system tonight) I will go with the stock wheels. I will bring better fluid to the track anyway and if it becomes a problem, I will bleed them then.

The weather is predicting ice tomorrow, so all of Houston may be shut down (aint nobody here got winter tires)...so I might get bored tomorrow and do it anyway.

You'll *probably* be faster with the skinnier tires, because the straights are so long. I can't say 100% until I have data, but I would start by trying 225. The only courses I've seen where wider is faster NA is a really tight course like Streets of Willow Springs (try it on GT6)

That is what I was thinking. I almost forgot. What tire pressure should i start out with? Thanks for your input.

30 is a good starting point, but cold pressures won't matter, only the hot pressures. Keep your tire gauge with you in the car (secured or tied down), and check pressures after 3 laps. Bleed to 36-38 hot, and then check again IMMEDIATELY after your sesssion, and bleed as needed.

Remember to fill your tires back up at the end of the day.

Why do people tape the gap between the bumper and fenders when going to the track?
