If I'm not mistaken the Fit used to have more cargo space than the Civic, right? I would have chosen the Fit over the previous Civic too. The Fit is a fantastic car.

I think the point of a track FWD car for honda was they believe at some price point it makes for the fastest possible OEM track car, with benefits in cost and weight that can be spent elsewhere.

I just wonder if 30k is too high of a price point, since at that point you can afford some v6 rwd cars. Who knows, with modern tires maybe at the 300hp range the weight savings is worth it and FWD cars are worth it. Maybe the civic R will be the fastest car for its price.

I wonder if though maybe they should aim more at the 20k price point, like the fiesta ST or the 25k price point like the focus st. I feel like with the civic they are fighting for that "fastest FWD on the nurburgring" title too much. Maybe they need to bring back an ITR to get that fastest FWD title and a cheaper civic R for the fastest car for its price factor.

New si has same 1.5 as hatchback, just tuned.
I do wish that 1.5 in si has vtec atleast.
If new si has same 1.5 then I will be very disappointed.
Been looking up 4door fun car and seems like fiesta st is one of best for the price right now.

Agreed, that's an excellent point. Also it's no secret that during most of it's production period, the 2nd gen Fit was the best product Honda built.

I had one of those. Mine was a 1980, with the 3 speed semi-auto (Hondamatic)...loved that car. The same goes for the 1st generation Civic...slower than a constipated poo, but still a riot to drive.

Has anyone owned/driven one of these yet? My wife was looking for a smaller more fuel efficient replacement for her '08 Acura RDX, and she test drove an HRV, then one of these Civics.
Wow! What a difference between the 9th and 10th gen Civics...not even on the same page! I got to drive a 2012 Si on track while I was awaiting delivery of my FR-S 4 years ago, and came away very disappointed with Honda. Ang previously had an '02 Civic EP3 SiR (Si in U.S.), and it was a fun car to drive. The 2012 Si felt more like an Accord sedan in comparison. Is the new one as sharp as an FR-S? No, but still a vast improvement over the last generation.
We will be picking up a leftover new 2016 Civic EX-T (turbo) coupe tomorrow. Unfortunately it has a CVT transmission, but it is her car, so I can live with that.

cvt is cool..had it on my nissan versa sl hatchback...keeps the rpm nice and has nice torque output without needing to run through the gears so to speak

Just a few days before the Geneva Motor Show opens on March 7, what appear to be images of the final production version of the 2018 Honda Civic Type R made their appearance on the web.

The two photos showing the front and rear ends of the Civic Type R look almost identical to the near-production concept that has been making the auto show rounds for the better half of last year, bar a few minor changes.

These include the oh-so Honda (regular) white paint job instead of the study’s brushed steel color scheme, the stainless center exhaust pipe that was painted red on the concept, and possibly, black plastic instead of carbon fiber spoiler bits, though, we’re not sure about the latter due to the low-resolution nature of these photos.

But otherwise, it looks just as ‘Fast & Furious’ as the concept, from the spoilers and hood scoop right up to the massive rear wing and triple exhaust outlets.

Honda has confirmed that it will feature a newer version of its 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 305hp in the current model, but it has kept technical details close to its chest. Carscoops understands that the newer model might get a power bump, while retaining its front-wheel drive setup.

Honda has said that, whereas the outgoing Type R was an afterthought for the Civic series, the new model was designed in from the start of the program, claiming that this will massively benefit its driving dynamics.

Production of the new Civic Type R will start in summer 2017 at Honda’s UK plant in Swindon, with the hot hatch to be exported across Europe and to other markets around the world, including Japan and the US, marking the first time that any Honda-badged Type R has been officially sold in the States.
