1) I'm not comfortable with e.g. a rear spoiler being removed on a brand new car, at the port or otherwise; and b) is this true? i.e. that it's impossible to get 2017 86 factory direct in the US w/o any port or dealer installed options?
The cars come stock with no spoiler so they would have to order it installed not uninstalled. Ordering a bone stock car means you would get a bone stock car not one with parts taken off of it. What else don't you want on it? All that really gets put on at port or the dealer is the spoiler, TRD exhaust or sway bars, foglights, wheels or springs. All of those things have to be ordered put on by the dealer.

They sell them at the Area 86 store, I bet it's the same place where they give out free Toyota 86 tissues.

Yeah, that definitely looks like the TRD kit marketed in Japan. If a TRD edition comes to the states, I may have to pick one up.

That has TRD on the center portion of the front spoiler. Maybe not the TRD edition, but it is a TRD front spoiler.

I must have gotten the only one, I guess.

Ya "aftermarket" really wasn't the right term.

They have aftermarket and many different optional parts there too.

The point being a picture of a car with parts added in Japan is not an indication of a TRD release here. Not sure if the original post was a joke but some will take that comment and run with it so soon we will have 100 people waiting for something that does not exist.

Quoting the dealer's/salesperson's email:
"All of these vehicles are accessorized at the port. What we can do is take a deposit on an incoming one and have the add ons removed. So it would come in without them."

I'd like to believe talking with dealers is always a fair & honest experience . Thanks for the heads up, re: "port" installed options.

Looks great in white, nice.
If okay to ask, what part of the country/globe are you in?
It seems here in South Florida every car comes accessorized, I'm finding it difficult to locate a dealer who hasn't tacked on options or told me that the car is delivered to the dealership that way (i.e. "added at the port before delivery").
Not to mention Florida's outrageous $800+ "document fees" (I'm used to previously shopping in California where by State law the doc fees never exceed <$100).

So what he is saying is that all the cars have spoiler and such put on and then if they order them "special" without they don't add it? Totally backwards to the reality. If that were the case all the cars sitting on dealer lots would have spoilers, exhausts and lowering springs. Not to mention everybody without a spoiler would have 4 big holes in their trunk lid.

I wonder if they'll do a release series now that Scion is gone... Since that's how the RS1.0 got it's jdm TRD inspired kit.

Thanks again, the dealer's email response did seem off kilter.

However, I'll give this salesperson (who seemed like a nice guy) the benefit of the doubt and perhaps what he meant to write was that they receive a lot of lower priced vehicles (like the 86) with port installed add-ons, and if I pre-order they'll make certain that a vehicle is delivered w/o stuff I don't want; probably a generous assumption though, more likely/obviously they're just looking to make an extra few $s (also shopping for a new 2016 FR-S late this past summer I saw models w/ all kinds of accessorizing like e.g. hideous hood, roof, and rear deck wide stripe paint appliqués).

I'll move on to a different dealership, however as mentioned I'm having hard time finding a 2017 86 as "bone stock" in SE Florida (every dealership seems to tack on stuff I don't want or need, e.g. rear spoiler, expensive ToyotaGuard, etc.).

Probably have to order one. Or look online
