On a more serious note, does anyone with a catless header have any issues getting it inspected? I know Texas says you have to keep all the cats that come with the car but how closely do places check?

AFAIK Texas does not require a visual inspection, I think it just needs to pass an OBD2 scan.

Yes, but I would double check that before pulling any triggers...

Yeah just thinking ahead. I'm leaving major parts alone until my freebie maintenance has expired. Just looking for experiences others might have had with mods vs red tape. When I lived in NH they kicked the tires and if the wheels didn't fall off they gave me a sticker.

Really depends on where you go. There was a place I used to go in Waco that never checked for any of that. Got my FJ thru tint inspection every time.

on that note, does anyone know of a sticker place that will ignore illegal tint?

Austin, unfortunately, has some of the more stricter shops, but that was in South Austin for me. For emissions, it's a CEL and OBDII check - I've never had a visual inspection. If you are truly worried, either go to Lil Mexico, or a county that doesn't do emissions (my choice is usually somewhere near Abilene).

Depends on county. Williamson doesn't have it, but at some point I think they will. If it comes down to that, you may need to "friend" up someone at Jiffy Lube with some beer to get your sticker. Otherwise, "know a guy" and get one that way, lol. Back in Dallas\Ft. Worth, you had to pass the sniffer.

Both my car and my Camaro SS I bought back in 2010 have catless headers and I have 0 issues passing inspection. At the rate Austin is growing, that may change at some point. This is why I got a catted front pipe because that will still let you pass the sniffer. Filters enough at idle to get by.

lol, I remember living in Austin temporarily back in 2012 with my Corolla with a straight pipe. I was so surprised when I got rejected by Firestone in South Austin, then was told in Abilene that Firestone had placed a "hold" on my VIN so that I'd have to get reinspected back at their station. It's just easier to get a cat... what's 1-2HP vs. a world of headaches

I'd happily take one with a cat - I was looking into the option of the Open Flash stuff though and their header has no cat. I'm definitely keeping the second cat no matter what, but it's the header one that's hit or miss depending on what header you get, it seems.
Plenty of time to look into this though - I want to do suspension before I start pulling stuff off the engine The car's been fast enough for the past almost year I've had it and I want to get something slightly more aggressive than the stock shocks/struts. Then later will be smoothing out what the engine can do. It's funny that most of the drives I go on put the engine right in the middle of the torque pit though.
