That's correct.

The justification for the rule was that from the factory those foam pieces are attached to the car and will not move around with the spare tire removed.

Mine are falling apart and may be loose soon enough :/ may have to hot glue them in or something.

I bought some velcro strips for mine. They seem to be working to hold them in place, but still removable.

Oh wow I missed that update. That's pretty dumb. Like taking them out accounts for significant weight savings??

Clips are missing on both of mine. Guess I'll have to buy clips...

One of mine is secured with painter's tape. They are so light, you don't need much stick to hold them in place. If you use too much velcro I can see you breaking the piece trying to remove it.

The body shop abused my other one when removing it - I have a clip for it, but the clip is so loose that the painter's tape on the other piece actually does a better job holding it in place.

Again, if you need a clip at nats, I will have some spares with me. I also won't be protesting anyone for missing styrofoam.

So who all is going to Solo Nats 2017? I really want to go in my car but I just don't have the funds to get the car prepped better. Anyone need a tire warmer?

Going to be upgrading the suspension on my BRZ late this summer & just looking for some opinions before I pull the trigger. Current set up: Bilstein b8 dampers w/ RCE Tarmac springs & RCE street camber plates. 17x9 wheels with Re71r's. Alignment -2.8f/-2r. Have had this setup for apprx 2 years.

Wanting to make the jump to coils for the damper adjustability, spring rates, and ability to corner balance.

Planning on going with RCE Tarmac 2's (400/400), a 22mm front sway, front endlinks, SPC rear lower control arms, and whiteline rear bushings.

Question: is there really any difference between the perrin, whiteline, and strano front sway bars? Also, are all endlinks created equal? Was planning on whiteline, but if there are better options out there I'm all ears.

Sounds like a solid plan. The 22mm Strano bar is actually tubular, so it's about the same stiffness as a 20mm solid bar. If you're going to keep the stock rear bar, I wouldn't go any stiffer than 20mm solid or 22mm tubular or you'll start getting understeer.

Yes, they're all different stiffnesses, it's like choosing between different spring rates, the brand is less important than the properties.

iirc from softest to stiffest
OE (18mm)
Perrin 19mm
Strano (I think it's in between the Perrin soft and stiff settings)
Whiteline 20mm (I think Perrin on stiff setting is stiffer than Whiteline on soft, a bit of overlap here)
Perrin/Whiteline 22mm (not sure which is stiffer here)

And then there are more options on top of that. Personally I'm not a fan of the end links whiteline provides with their sway bar for the 86, I find them difficult to install and swap to a different hole and they come loose about every 4-6 months for me. They're also too long for this car, if you search you'll find some people have hacked off the ends to make them work a bit better. But I do think adjustables are the way to go, I did ghetto hardware store links in the rear and I'm living with the Whitelines up front (with a 20mm bar) for now.

As above most people think softer sway bars are the way to go.

I like my Tarmac 2's. Tried them with 450's on my FRS, I use the 400's on my BRZ which I like better.

Ran a whiteline 20mm on soft for the whole year on my FRS and a bit on my BRZ. Recently switched to the 22mm Perrin in the front and I like that better (both setups with whiteline front end-links). Going to be trying the new Mann 12mm adjustable rear bar here soon, also adding rear adjustable end-links.
