Short answer:
No matter how good a deal never, ever buy anything you have doubts about. They will haunt you for as long as you own it even if everything is perfect

I hope not.
My comment was not made on anger or jest but from my own past experience with such a situation.

Thanks for all the advice. I've got them to agree to 25K (MSRP was 26,165 with the options it has). I kinda doubt it was a test drive demo vehicle due to it being a manual. It just seems unlikely that a manual could rack up 300 miles worth of test driving. I've carefully inspected the whole thing and the body is still flawless everywhere. If I knew exactly how the vehicle was driven for those 500 miles then I would be happy with $1,100 off. But I just don't know. It sure would be nice to get it now instead of waiting 4-6 weeks.

If the engine was run at a constant RPM for too long, does that result in any actual loss of power?

put this in perspective man..

let's say... you're looking at a 2014 USED car, with 5400 miles on it.

would you be worried about how it was broken in? What difference would it make on the purchase of your USED car?

but seriously, knock them down on the price, or get a free extended warranty (like Certified PreOwned) attached, and go enjoy!

Depending on where each car ends up during the various different shipping stages they can have huge differences on miles. They can be shuttled across huge storage lots many many times and if always at the far end that can really add up. The good news is that those miles are usually well broken up into short runs.
You know that the one you are looking at had the one long run but it is not very likely that it was constant speed for the whole trip. So for the sake of putting a number to it lets say worst case would be steady speed for 10% of the break in. The instructions say to avoid prolonged periods. I personally don't think that the probable exposure would cause any issues at all.
I would buy the car without hesitation but like I said before if you have doubts that you can't put aside stay clear.

Basically the way I look it at is, if you guys aren't worried about it, I'm not gonna worry about it. I figured people on a GT86 forum would have a good sense of whether or not it's something to worry about

If you're not a hard-core DIY type, I like @Sammakko's suggestion of getting them to toss in the extended warranty, not because it has some miles on it. It's just a nice mental cushion for when you start discovering all the weird sounds it makes.

Notice I said "when."

Good luck & enjoy!

It doesn't matter if the car has 50 or 500 miles on it - if they are test driven miles, it was driven like it was stolen. Unless your car read less than 10 miles on the odometer, it likely had it's ass kicked a few times. Just like every single car on the lot.

If stepping on it during the break in period a few times did any damage to the car, dealers wouldn't allow people to have test drives. If you are paranoid, wait 4-6 weeks and let someone else get a good deal (and you may end up with a car that has a few dozen miles even if you wait).

Just look at the tires. If they are chewed to shit, then you know it was 500 miles of drifting. You might even get another $500 off for the tires.
