Generally dynoing in a lower gear will accentuate the "power" gain of a lighter rotating part (flywheel, pulley). If the dyno run is too short you start to lose resolution (assume a fixed data sampling rate, so less time = less data). On the other hand, if you take too long there might be drift, extra wear and tare on the engine, etc.

Back when I cared about this stuff, we always dynoed in 4th gear because it was 1-1. In the case of the BRZ that would be 5th gear.

I don't know if there is a wrong or better answer. You can't compare numbers that you get in different gears, so just make sure you do it the same way every time.

Mike, appreciate the extra effort to prove the designs out.

I'm new to this stuff, so I might be asking dumb questions.

Anyway, does the light-weight pulley add any gains? If so, do you plan on doing a run without the low weight pulley so we can just see the impact of just the exhaust system?

Also, I didn't see all the component weights. Might want to consider adding a table of weights to show the differences in stock vs. AP components.

Pulley's should not "show" any gains on a dyno. He has pictures of the pulley, header, and crosspipe weights stock vs AP components.

Thank you Vivid racing so much for doing this!!!!!! I really appreciatted you for going through all that trouble. But I just have 2 question to ask. Is there anyway I can get a different exhaust tip or can it be a little shorter(seems to stick out a bit)?and will this exhaust system pass my local emission's testing? I am planning on purchasing an exhaust system in the next serveral weeks. Just trying to narrow down and pick the best one.

For me it was pretty much the you had me at hello from the first thread because I just like the way the exhaust looks, sounds, and the fact it's a full exhaust system. :happy0180:

Thanks for the extra hard work you guys put through with dishing out some numbers. We'll be in touch when I'm ready to get my exhaust system

Reduced rotating mass WILL show gains on acceleration pulls.

For a better picture of what the over-pipe and header are gaining, they should have dyno'd them after the cat-back, then added the pulley after. So we still don't know out of the second gains how much is from reduced rotating mass cutting losses and how much is the header and overpipe making power. However in June they said they saw 6-7 from the header, but no graph at the time.

I don't think we'll get any better than this from them.

It's sad that it's been dragged out to 4 threads, when all it would've taken was a "Holy shit we forgot the flywheel and pulley were still on!!! Pull the dynosheet and edit the first page!" when I brought up the potential in the first thread.

Be more careful in the future.

I think this thread sets a new standard for product information threads. The development threads are a great read, but get muddied really fast. I hope this kind of post becomes mandatory for products as they become available for retail sale.

Cheers!

Also, not sure if I missed it somewhere, but do you have the total net weight savings of the full header/exhaust system vs. stock?
