Built FA20 heads and all if you went extreme 7k , 3k for the tranny, and Idk how much the kit to mate the tranny is but the FBM s2000 kit is 1k so 11 - 12k for a boosted FA20?(This is assuming you already have an FI kit) or ~20k for the legendary 2jz? I was giving this alot of thought last night is it that the 2jz is familiar and we know the limits of it. Is this why we gravitate towards it? I mean whats the difference between 700hp on a built FA20 and 700hp on a 2jz? and in before "the 2jz you can go much higher ect" how many of us would really break 4 digit horsepower? |

Well, it takes a lot for the FA20 to become "reliable" while boosted. The 2JZ is a well sorted platform that has more tuning options, power potential, and reliability when tuned. There are a lot of reasons people swap the FA20 out for almost any other motor. Maybe after some more time prices to modify the FA20 will come down and parts availability will become more prevalent, which would then make it "better" to modify from a cost - reliability - speed perspective. |

It is roughly 28,000 for a swap done properly with things working as they should with a 5 speed transmission and built internals. Takes roughly 2 months from what I heard from a friend that has spoken to them. From what he heard, they are very thorough in covering their bases to make sure things are done right. Budget build, I'm not sure, but I am curious to see what a budget build entails!

I don't think you're looking at this the right way. Most people wouldn't daily drive a 2JZ car OR a highly modified FA20. The BRZ / FRS has a lot of weak links when it comes to actually making power unfortunately. I don't think the "700" number is because of people building it less, it is because parts get progressively more expensive with that engine when you start going after big numbers. |
