I'm planning to go with 235/40-17 Star Specs to get some extra width and grip, but keep the stock diameter. I'm going to try and fit them on some lightweight 17x7 Kosei K1 TS wheels that I currently have on my Forester XT. If that size is too wide and rubs or won't fit properly on my wheels, then I may consider the same size as the OP. I liked the Star Specs I had on my Mustang, and my BRZ will definitely be autocrossed.

OK you made me go look...the hankooks are 255/40/17 so not quite as big a deal,

R/mile is 830 vs around 845 on similar tires to stock (no data on the OEM's yet from tire rack)

tire diameter is 35 for the 255/40/17's and 215/45/17's seem to be 24.6 or 24.7

I'm not worried anymore but you got to me for half a second

Those I know who have looked at the clearance between tire and front strut suggest that 225 would be pushing it without spacers.

Brian Peters, one of the three autoxers who drove the car in Irvine in an autox (Twice National Champion and Evo school instructor, told me the stock size works very well, and he suggested I resist the urge to go fat.

Just saying.

I was thinking 3-5mm spacers if needed with 225. Not sure how much stud length I'll have.

I think I may try the AD08 (235/40/17) on 17x8

I plan to test-fit my other wheels first. Got a set with 225-wide tires and 235-wide ones. I'm not inclined to classify something as "fits", if it requires a drastic change in the scrub radius.
