Canadian pricing of Toyota 86 seem to be nearly the same ($200 difference) as BRZ Sport-tech (Limited). Not sure what the 86 has going for it aside from brand and bumper...even then I'd much rather just buy the BRZ for that price.

Having one sitting in the driveway now, the biggest difference is in overall feel. I'm assuming Toyota felt the need to address some issues Scion didn't care about. Coming from a '13 FR-S, this is a much nicer car. I think it's fantastic. It's not quite the mad little thing the original is, but we all grow up a little. Supposedly.

Frankly in my opinion some features that should've came with the FRS in the first place and that is the HID headlights I just can't believe they cheaped out on us but at least they corrected it.

Exactly the reason why I got myself a 17' BRZ.

These first batches of monospec cars are really just for the brand loyalists who understand that all this car needs is a manual and nothing else.

For those interested however, I was able to get $2k off MSRP on the new 86. I'm sure ANYONE would be able to do the same if they were in the market.

What they're charging for a kind of car that doesn't even come with navigation OR even HAVE the option of adding one this year in Canada doesn't make any sense. They should have lowered the price by AT LEAST 1.5k. If the car was in the low 30's/high 20's, I would have jumped on a 2 year lease instantly and just played around with it until higher specced options were available.

what we've gotten versus what we wanted

I think a lot of people were hoping that when Toyota revamped the 86 and updated it that we'd have this

Were you able to get the price down on the BRZ? By how much?
I'm leaning toward a BRZ now, but if toyota is willing to lower their price, but subaru is not, then the 86 become interesting again.

I was able to get the BRZ 35k~ OTD, so roughly 1.5k~ off MSRP. That was enough in my books to place an order, and picking it up in 3 days!

I found a dealership whom was much more willing to get a deal done for what I believed to be reasonable. MRSP was 30,780 (auto, halo) was able to get it out the door financed for 84 months 108 bi weekly + 13,500 trade in = 31,644

Hopefully get it within the next week or two.

I found something super strange in the brochure on the canadian site:

https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/secu...ta-86/brochure

On page 8 (5 of the pdf), the door window has a frame!
Did they just photoshop a frame on the door window!?! What the hell! That is one messed up marketing departement you got there Toyota

Edit: After closer inspection, maybe the entire car is a 3d render. But that's still funny.

Nice catch. That whole door looks a bit out of perspective to me....

Interesting that the brochure has no image of the centre stack. Gee I wonder why....

At least it's got a bigger HU display - 7" vs. 6.1" for the BRZ.

What remains to be known: has the refresh maintained the distinction in handling between the twins (differing spring rates), or are they essentially identical in that department now?

I think they went that way(same spring rates) in 2015
