Airbags now are not the ones you hear horror stories about from back in the 70s and 80s. Yes, those early ones could be worse than the crash but thy learned. I have watched about a hundred crash tests in person and will tell you flat out I will never ever drive a car without belt on and airbags functioning again. Those tests do not look so bad on video but when they do a full frontal at only 30kph and the whole building still shakes you soon understand just how much force is involved. No amount of defensive driving or "good driving senses" will protect you if something goes wrong. Ya, we drove back then with no bags and seatbelts but we also didn't have crumple zones and energy absorbing crash bars so if you did get hit even with a belt on the energy transferred from the vehicle would still pulp your insides. This made belts sort of useless except to hold your dead body in the car. People can disbelieve the stats but the evidence that belts and bags save lives is indisputable. Wear your belt and trust those airbags! They will save you ass.

Many people do not understand or even know the changes that have happened with airbags over the last 30 years. The old ones had a slower charge and would actually be still inflating when your face hit it. They were better than nothing but could still do some damage. For the last 25 years or so they use a much faster charge. What that means is that it inflates so fast that by the time your face hits it it is actually already starting to deflate. This of course gives a much gentler cushion (as gentle as you can get when your head is traveling at several dozen Gs). Wikk you get bruised? Probably. Will you get cut? Possibly? will you live to enjoy your bruises or cuts? Well let's just say you have about an 85% better chance. Oh and I DO intend to preach!

Years as a firefighter, I've responded to countless MVAs on Southern California roads and freeways - there's no debate - restraints and airbags limit mechanical injuries.
Furthermore, as Tcoat stated, there has been remarkable improvements in airbags. Secondary injuries caused by airbag deployment has been reduced dramatically - due to early "one size fits all" airbags. Todays airbags are vehicle specific with numerous considerations. |

^ works for me.
I'm surprised it is essentially as the same price as the Canadian BRZ Sport Tech ($100 less). Except no leather seats, no dual zone climate control, no multi-function display in the gauges (from looking at the picture), no start\stop button with prox key, to name a few.... I don't get it? Also, what is with the old Scion spoiler they are offering as an accessory? It's not the aluminum one!!! I'll be getting the 2018 BRZ Sport Tech - and hopefully the Performance Package is in Canada by then. |

OK Toyota Canada are we just going to ignore the fact these have been here for 3 years as Scions? Blistering? Some people are going to be grossly disappointed!
