mine was at around the half way mark when cold since i got the car in march. a couple weeks ago it randomly dropped well below the low line. the dealer filled it up, actually a little past the full line when i was there for my fuel pump. at cold now it seems to have dropped a little. if it goes back to the low line then somethings wrong. i did notice what appeared to be water coming from under the front of my car while i was parked. I had the heat on while i was driving and thought it was just the ac compressor dripping but i'll have to keep an eye on that just in case

Same thing is happening to me. My coolant was empty and I didn't get a warning light either. Anyway I filled it up. And after 2 months it's halfway empty.

I went out to check on my fluids this morning, I too have low coolant. I'm going to add some today, I'll check back in a few days.

anybody with missing coolant get there oil tested?
does coolant even avaperate or would it have to be a leak?
scary how common this seems to be, but i dont recall any blow ups or rads failing due to coolant dumpage.

I would still like to see members experiencing this problem after 25-30K miles get their oil tested...I'm still not convinced its all evap/burping issues

***Subaru can't even design a proper taillight, door switch, rear deck, or even have a basic tune on premium to keep cars from knocking....I have no faith in them any longer

After filling up my coolant one time after the initial "below low" incident a month ago, I can say my coolant levels are stable. Not noticing any evaporating anymore. I'll keep this post updated if that changes. If it does happen again, my next goal will be new hoses for the radiator as I think those are what's causing the evap.

Had a similar low coolant issue. Took my car to the dealer to get my 7k oil change and had them take a look at it. They ran a pressure test on the system and said there were no leaks. They topped off my coolant. Will keep an eye on it and post back if there are any drastic changes. Hopefully this is only a one time issue!

I had completely forgotten to update this thread.

The great news is, I found out what (I believe) was causing the issue.

Rod stretch at the wrist pin on the front driver side cylinder causing the piston to come in contact with the valves - remember how Toyota said I had overrevved it due to bent valves? Yea, a part defect caused that, not an overrev (there was never an overrev in this car). I believe the contact caused the head to lift slightly, which would explain why the static compression was solid while there was still residue in the cylinder when Toyota scoped it.

How did I find this all out? Well, the hole in the block tipped me off. The rod ended up snapping, sending the piston into the head. The big end of the rod spun around and blasted a hole through the block. It was quite impressive actually.

Pics to follow.

I have worked on a ton of engine in my day and none seem to be as prone to head gasket failure as a subaru motor. I am currently working on an ej25 with a mangled head that had to be rebuilt. Normally in a subaru the head gasket leaks for a long time before it fails and the car over heats. The coolant will leak into the exhust and will look like white smoke. The best way to test this is a hydro carbon test (did my first on recently saved a ton of time) which will tell you if the gasket has a slow leak. There will not be coolant in the oil and spark plugs will not be white because it is just bypassing into the exhaust. Also the car can pass a pressure test when this is happening. I suggest getting it done before the warranty runs out just in case they are leaking a little bit.

Ok so how do I get a hydro carbon test. And doesn't white smoke always emit from exhaust?
