2012 Video Game Thread

I picked up Civilization 5 over the weekend since steam had it on sale for $7.. I booted it up last night after dinner, started a game, and 5 hours later the match still wasn't over. Holy time sink...

Anyone try the new FIFA street? Wondering if its worth getting or just wait till it goes on sale.

I'm waiting til goes on sale... I'm already buying Ninja Gaiden 3 & Armor Core 5 next week. I'm broke as is lol

^ I hope NG3 turns out to be good, but hopefully it will not be as aggravating as the 2nd was for me.

You would think the demo will eventually be available on Live and ps3 network, but that is a nice bonus by Team Ninja.

Other than the stellar game play, I wonder what direction the story will go in the DOA series?

I would assume... but I don't think it'll come out for a while.

I'm just hoping that it'll not fail me. SoulCalibur V, Street Fighter x Tekken, & other recent fighting games were horrible...

LoL games like those are time wasters but in a good way. Just hard to play an RTS game like that with so much information. I prefer simple ones like Starcraft/Warcraft.

Well Civ 5 isn't technically an RTS because it is turn based, that's why the game takes so long. I also did not really push for fast victory since I wanted to experiment with all the units and buildings etc. That said, 3 nights of playing and I am still on the same match >_>

Can't go wrong with any of these:

Skyrim
Any of the Assassin's Creed series
Battlefield 3
Rage
Any of the Modern Warfare series.

All of these play great on a multi-monitor setup with the right video card by the way.

Just picked up Skyrim and gonna pick up BF3 this weekend. Man I don't think my rig can max out this games which I like doing. I would have to drop like another $500+ on hardware just to keep up with today's tech.

Ichi, was the Grand Theft Auto series available in Japan? Or banned due to public morality issues or something?

Had a student that wanted to talk about games for conversation practice. He was into the FF series and Dragon Quest(?, the other Square RPG series that is only big in Japan). I asked him if he had played any of the GTA games and he claims he hadn't heard of them. From my description of it (stealing cars, robbing stores, picking up hookers) he thought it may not have been allowed there.

I was 'WTF???? That series has sold like a trillion copies internationally!'...

Was he trolling me?

My last upgrade cost me about that, because I decided to go Eyefinity and 3 monitors. I originally did it for Flight Sim, but it turns out to be very practical. I work from home a few days a week, so I have the middle monitor on a KVM with my laptop from work. I have an extra mouse on my home system so even with the KVM on the laptop I can use the left/right monitor for TV or home email (I keep a virtual keyboard open to serve that purpose.

Game-wise, its great for flight sim, but can be hard to get used to in FPS or other games. Biggest issue is when you turn your character, everything swivels on the middle monitor. Once you do though its great there too.

Diablo III has a release date of May 15th
