Has anybody messed with the intake at all? I wana be able to hear the s/c a bit more. I'm considering plumbing the old intake sound tube into the breather line attached to the air box.

I have a custom cold air to where the air filter is under the toyota badge in the front bumper. 90 degree bend then quick 180 to air filter under the bumper. You can def hear the blower more buuuuut you will hear flutter a loooot more so that's the trade off. Apparently so I've been told, the airbox muffles the flutter a lot. I could be wrong.

I do like your setup. I may try the sound tube thing first but will probably start sourcing some pipe and elbows, see if I can't whip something up.

From what I know, Q=VA. Flowrate=Velocity of flow x Area.

I don't know what the snorkel diameter is, but I would figure you would choke mass air flow probably killing power due to the smaller diameter duct.
Hence why I don't think they dont recommend using it.

Perrin or Vortech owners do you still go to the dealer for any work?

I don't care about warranty coverage but would a Toyota dealer refuse service work if you showed up with a Vortech under the hood?

I already have two independent Subaru shops in my area that could be the next care takers of my car. But they won't be able to do Toyota firmware flashes or factory recalls if those occur.

Small general question on top of all of that. Can an oem even deny recall work on a modified car?

No, but they'll try to blame mods if the recall isn't performed and then it breaks, if you've got mods that might effect the system that the recall pertains to...

The 2G DSMs had a recall for the front lower ball joints, they would get dirt inside the joint and over time it would wear out and fail. (then the suspension would collapse) I didn't know about the recall until the ball joint failed on my '95 Eclipse. Luckily for me it failed as I was pulling into a parking space, not 5 minutes after I pulled off of the highway where I was going ~70mph. The service manager tried to blame suspension mods that I didn't even have. The car was stock everywhere but under the hood.

So I pulled my airbox off the other day to do some work on the car not related to the SC (had to wrap and clamp the rattling flex joints of my Borla header). I noticed a little bit of oil on the blower inlet around the impeller. Have any of you observed the same? I have dual Radium catch cans installed, and the side that goes to the intake is still clean, no trace of oil in the can and inside the airbox. Car has a little less than 2,000km on the SC. Blower lubricant has recently been replaced and I made sure not to overfill.

I'm also thinking of removing the snorkel behind the bumper. Will the additional airflow affect my current tune? Right now the AFR readout from my AEM gauge goes down to the high 10s when I go WOT and peaks at 11.3-11.4 at redline.

Almost done with Vortech install with a used kit, and I'm anxious to fire up... yet 2 issues I need to resolve...your help is appreciated, I owe you a brew...

1) I'm missing the PCV breather check valve which is spliced onto the top of the passenger side intake manifold.

It's not Vortech ' s fault, it was a used kit...

Is it ok to run on the street for a week or so, driven gingerly, until it arrives from Vortech? Or do you know of any off the shelf dealer parts that I could pick up today, perhaps a factory FI vehicle has the same part, it's a check valve spliced onto the intake manifold with 3/8 in hose barbs?

2) How do you jump the fuel pump relay, so that I can run Vishnu Tuning ' s oft 300 93 map? Currently I have a 3/4 tankfull of e85...any experience draining the fuel tank...I owe you 10 gallons of e85...?

Or perhaps, is there a quick and easy way to tune the oft 300 93 map so that I can get the oft 300 map to turn ovet, I suspect it need more fuel on cold start up?

Thank you!

You could just remove the hose and cap off the port on the manifold while you wait for the check valve. Be sure to use a hose clamp on it. I would recommend getting a 3/8" to 1/2" hose coupler and using new hoses when your check valve arrives, that way you can reuse your unmolested stock hose if ever you go back to stock. How much was the check valve from Vortech?

I've never drained the fuel tank so I can't help you with that

No clue how to clear the tank. Why did you not finish off your tank of e85 before starting all this?

Autozone usually has universal vacuum check valves on the shelf in the "help" section with the other random bits (Throttle cables, window crank handles, etc.)
